I went to college early 2000s. The textbook said something along the lines of "The fastest RAM is 100 MHz".
DDR was still relatively new then. I took a clipping of an ad showing higher speeds, and he literally claimed I faked the printed ad ...

My dad is probably about the same age (currently 81)
He didn't touch a computer until the mid 2000s, and he just wanted to be able to email. It was a looooong journey to get him comfortable doing that.
Since he got a smart phone he texts literally every day, has installed a number of apps himself, can mostly get new services working himself (he did Amazon Prime, with some mild hand holding).
If anything, I call him more then he calls me!
It's doable :)
I really am wondering if there's some sort of sorting issue, or even a self inflicted feedback loop.
If you keep Lemmy on "active", you end up with a bunch of 1, 2, even 3 day old content. This seems to be noticeably worse in the last few weeks.
However, if you use top 12, there's enough content to keep it fresh. Not a lot of comments, but that's alright
Ah interesting. I too have instituted a flex time Friday.
So far my company hasn't seemed to notice
They claimed my daughter's phone had a cracked screen and couldn't replace the battery, while showing a picture of the very clearly not cracked screen.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I paid for it when it was bundled with Google Play Music. It felt like a great value.
Too bad they abandoned GPM.
Reading through all the comments, this is the one.
I would prefer it to be my choice, not the choice of the instance admin. That has too much possibility to result in an echo chamber of somebody else's preferences
Virtually identical absolutely. But in my personal experience over the last few months, I see content that's in lemmy.world that's not on lemm.ee
For a while, because content was more thin, I'd run through all of active, then all of hot, then I'd look at lemmy.world just to see if there was content I hadn't seen yet
I look at lemmy.world all occasionally to get a sense of what I'm interested in but don't know it yet. Then I subscribe to help expand the variety for everyone. Not that lemm.ee is all that small
Do you write 4$ and 50¢?
Or do you write $4.50
And if you write $4.50 do you say "dollars four period fifty"?
That's not nearly the justification that you think it is.
