Right now lemmy feels more toxic to me than reddit in many ways. I've never been on a reddit news thread where people were openly trolling and posting pictures of pig shit in response to comments they don't like.

It also needs about 1000% less hostility when it comes to anything beyond superficial discussion. Basically every news thread just gets brigaded by idiots trolling with pictures of pig shit. I get it, internet is not serious business, but in terms of actual discourse at the moment, this place is worse than Facebook.
To be fair, it's also a Boogeyman on lemmy, apparently

I do agree that the caging trend is fucking awful. I have friends who leave their two large dogs caged for 8 hours a day and it crushes me. These are both well behaved dogs who wouldn't make a mess out of a cage so I really just don't get the point, other than it's millennial meta to do cage training.

Also, this is the exact attitude a lot of us have an issue with. If you want to be a parent then that's great! I fully support you in that decision and will do everything I can to help. So why can't you support my individual decision to not have children?

Holy shit I thought I was the only one. Monogamy is far and away the most toxic force in almost every relationship. It literally does nothing but breed jealousy and suspicion.
We have small yappy dogs one one side of us as a loud as fuck motorcycle on the other side. The motorcycle is only a fucking 400cc thing too, but this dude apparently went to the dealer and was like "I need the exhaust which wakes up the entire neighborhood please."

It will eventually. Incompetence and stupidity might not catch up with you immediately, but it's like an immortal snail tirelessly pursuing you. Eventually it will always get you.
It depends on what content you consume I guess. On Reddit, news subs generally enforce decorum pretty strongly which really eliminates outright trolling. On lemmy there is the opposite of this in many places - lemmygrad and hexbear openly state that it is their goal to shit up threads to deny "shit libs" a platform, and the mods on several major instances seem to openly allow it.
So if you never consume that kind of content on either platform, you'd never notice the relative toxicity of lemmy.
