This is literally 1984’s double thinking: the people accusing other people of being woke and defining themselves as red-pilled (woken up to a reality) are in turn the most ignorant. They are accusing their enemy of having reached a state of mind they themselves claim to have reached, while they actually did not. Totally paradoxical.

Views are just a number in a database.

I hear there is another “to be maybe federated” social network currently making the rounds, we’re they could find a captive audience …

Not necessarily: Facebook has used a public-private-partnership with a German university to let them train the model on publicly available data, no matter the copyright status. The university is allowed to do this, since science enjoys a lot of defined rights, which rank higher than commercial copyright in Germany specifically (but I can imagine in other places as well). Facebook just received the model. This is obviously a ploy for plausible deniability and morally wrong, but it hasn’t been challenged in court yet and is believed to hold up currently. I can imagine OpenAI to be smart enough to have one or more layers of buffering between themselves and the dataset as well.

I hate Zucc’s guts, but he isn’t stupid. Elon on the other side I am not so sure about.

Anyone can release an app in Europe no prior approval required. I’m using over 250 apps currently on my phone and have used thousands others in the past. All of these apps either operated inside the law or at least “pending a lawsuit”, as is customary in silicon valley. The chances of this lawsuit materializing and Facebook thinking it would lose this hypothetical lawsuit must be astronomical if they chose not to launch.

Which makes him even more dangerous. In my personal world all centralized social networks would be put into Musk’s hand and Zucc behind bars for every genocide, election sway and dictator Facebook has enabled and will enable in the future.

If the “hot” and “active” filters continue to work as expected and bots get reasonably moderated or blocked, I don’t even think Lemmy needs a high barrier to entry or petulance. The most important thing is to not optimize any recommendation or sorting algorithm on session duration, ads seen before closing session, and revenue per user.

To be honest: while the M1/2 Macs are great, macOS and the platform at large feel like being on hold for years now.

I am actually kinda excited to see this develops, even though I don’t play FIFA: Back when it was FIFA against PES common wisdom said FIFA would always “win” (commercially), since it used every and all licenses for everything. Even when PES started to get specific license constellations, FIFA always came out on top. With EA’s new strategy the FIFA successor looks a whole lot like PES back then. Could be a company killing move imo.

Is the M.2 port fully PCI capable? I’d like to put a PCI RAID controller with maybe four or six SATA ports into something Pi-adjacent. But full featured PCI-ports are kinda hard to come by in SBCs.
