Since Joplin got a shoutout here, i feel like Notesnook should be mentioned as well – feels more polished and is potentially a good e2ee Evernote alternative. Not sure about OneNote tho

I usually just use Restic (not just for servers), for big databases i pipe pg_dump directly into it, and for even bigger ones, i recently moved to pgBackRest.

I ping to a selfhosted Healthchecks instance to see if my backups still run. (or the other way around)

On my main desktop (which recently became a mac, i am sorry) – i currently use Autorestic for multiple locations... its nice to have that yaml, but – well – i am used to bashscripts anyway so it is not that big of a benefit i guess.. .

for me that happened when my password manager put the email as username.. (i didn't recognize this as an issue cause because for example Mastodon expects the email address)

but that i think would rather make matrix servers go boom ... literally i am afraid when i look at the various bugs and performance bottlenecks of synapse, which at least right now is the most popular server

But when searching for kbin from this Lemmy Account, I do not find much. I feel like I am missing some basic concept, that makes it pretty clear. Why this is such a one way experience.

Not sure if i understand correctly, but instances can only show you what they are aware of. This does not really depend on the underlaying software (unless it is specialized, like PeerTube maybe).
