Is it a social experiment?

Am I wrong? There are bits of it that just feel -- generated!

There's even a fully automated toaster that capitalism won't let us have.

This one I want to say has to be trained on their writing, though?

But we don't have a toaster in our house. We have a toaster oven. And a toaster oven is a very simple appliance to make. All you need is a toaster and a bit of time. It's very easy to make. It takes about 10 minutes and you can use it to toast your eggs, toast your toast, toast your toast and toast your toast. It's that simple. But it's not that simple. It's not that easy to make. And it's not that easy to do. We have no toaster oven in our house. We have a toaster oven that we buy at the store.

The topic drift... it has to be. It has to be. Right?

I cannot find a good source tweet for this yet. It is also the case that anything worth doing would be so incredibly niche that you'd have to have an audience in mind hardly less specific than its original author.

But what a wonderfully made little tool!

My problem switching off of gmail is that I'd really like to start moving to an alias-based approach (so, you know, lemmy@maya.land for Lemmy emails, etc.) but this then conflates two issues so I solve neither.

I wish Google Takeout were required to maintain consistent formats so people could develop tools against it. I could make a lot of progress by pulling out the decade of history I have with them and not maintaining more than a couple months of data inside their stuff at any given time.

Nature is so much weirder than people give her credit for. Anyway, if you're ever looking for cuter examples than lizards for your "actually sex isn't that simple" arguments, consider these guys?

Also, I choked on air reading this (in an otherwise touching piece):

In the early 1990s, however, it was too expensive and laborious to find answers by sequencing the bird's genome. So Tuttle initially focused on collecting more detail about their behaviour, such as how they selected mates and where they built nests. The goal was to understand what might affect offspring survival. She caught and tagged birds, drew blood samples and perfected the art of collecting semen. “Elaina was the best bird masturbator I ever met,” Gonser says.

My brain is broken. Broken, I tell you.

Tom Stoppard!

Rosencrantz!

Sean Connery!

Guildenstern!

I like reading Tom Stoppard plays even though they suffer from the "ah this woman was written by a man" aura.

Illustrates the relevant Wondermark depressingly well. I despair at the idea that correcting incorrect facts is enough.

Chris Aldrich was posting about something like this and I realized that I don't think I've shared this since using it for my latest attempt to Get Into RSS. Feed import / export remains pretty garbage for RSS readers once you get enough feeds that categories are essential... but we work with what we have.

For me, it was cool because I've tried for a long time to follow a lot of non-dudes in tech. After this OPML file was generated, I went through and found a lot more blogs / sites of those people than I'd expected!

If your Twitter follow list is anything like mine, I recommend manually verifying that people have posted within the last year or so before adding them to whatever your canonical RSS feed list is.

I just found Justus's website and it makes my heart warm to see a blend of crafts, tech, plants, books one's read, all mish-mashed up on a website. This little URL seemed like an excellent submission for /c/nicheinternet and I'm hoping it will help me remember to go back and check to see if he gets an RSS feed up. (I'm pretty crap at remembering things without computers poking me about them, so RSS is important!)

This is funny, but also genuinely superior in terms of lyrical texture. Maybe that seems like it'd be obvious, but I would have thought that if you have the freedom of absolute gibberish you'd be able to optimize that.

On the other hand, it's leekspin and I'm overanalyzing.

  • I could make a joke about "ah, the three genders" but tbh "mostly ghost but sort of woman" is too on-the-nose, this triangle needs to be in common use everywhere
  • exactly as scientific as most other personality tests out there

The measurement seems to exclude adblocked stuff, and that seems questionable to me.

The concept discriminates against us animated gif lovers, too. ;) Might be more interesting to limit Javascript size?

That said, it's fun to see how these vary from sleek to good old chunky <table>s.

This is a rich vein unmined by many. Fanfiction authors! X-but-make-it-gay authors! Literary authors who are feeling a bit stuck! Unite!!

(there is some 1928 racism embedded so pls know that going in. also, um, don't use racism as a plot conceit.)
