The Wave-Gotik-Treffen (WGT; German for "Wave Gothic Meeting") is an annual world festival for "dark" music and "dark culture" in Leipzig, Germany. 150+ bands and artists from various backgrounds (gothic rock, EBM, industrial, noise, darkwave, neo-folk, neo-classical and medieval music being examples) play at several venues throughout the city over four days on Whitsuntide. The festival also features multiple all-night dance club parties, several fairs with medieval, gothic, and related merchandise, a variety of cultural exhibitions and performances, large themed picnics, and a number of unofficial fringe events. -wikipedia

The "Victorian Picnic" on Friday afternoon in the park is an iconic event during WGT, especially for those who like to dress up in Victorian, steampunk, baroque or all kinds of neo/dark romantic styles. The first song I ever heard by VNV Nation, and this is what got me into them.

In fact, I didn't even know it was VNV Nation for about a year: it was mistagged as an unreleased/bootleg Nine Inch Nails track when I downloaded it. I have no idea how I managed to convince myself this could have been NIN: I'll blame the naïvete of youth.
