I'm so disenchanted with policing that I'm not sure it can be rehabilitated without heavy heavy changes, but you remind me of how I felt signing up for police college as a young guy. I was pretty religious too at the time, and going into policing felt like the ultimate service to the community.

Anyway, a few ride-alongs cured me of that notion.

Fair. I mean same, it's not for everyone.

What kind of shape are your feet in tho?

Photographer seems like a good one. I've a friend who works four days a week, and occasionally fills in the extra day or weekend with a quick professional photo shoot.

Edits in the evenings while rewatching movies.

It's pretty chill. That one day off actually earned them more than if they worked five days a week, even if they only work it once in a while.

Why /s? I feel like this is the perfect example if you can get away with only doing it part time. I have an aunt who does foot stuff on there and seems to do pretty well

I'm the opposite. I wad told sugar was poison, so I avoided it as a kid. But now as an adult I love getting a sugary pop or whatever. My sweet tooth has definitely come in late

Enjoy! Would love to hear a newcomer's thoughts on it. I remember it being so immersive and cinematic the first time I played.

Though many of its innovations are now common in other games.

Yeah like the average person has never heard of enshitification. It's not even an established concept in their mind.

They may have a vague sense that things are getting shittier on the big platforms, but probably don't even consider smaller platforms or decentralization as solutions

Time to dust off the crowbar

When I saw my friend's dad sitting, quietly watching his HDD defrag progress on Windows, I learned that patience can be enjoyable.

It's so much more relaxing, realising you don't have to be in a hurry

My parents, in their 70s, started receiving a guaranteed income supplement (they're Canadian). They're still poor, but finally they can afford the basics of survival without having to work full time.

It's such a huge change.

Congratulations!

Let them spend some time in the freezer. There's still a chance they could be used in pancakes or dog biscuits...

Update 2024-09-05: The writing club is underway! I'll keep this post updated to act as a hub for any further WC related materials.

Writing Club posts:

I've never been in a writing club but I'm interested in trying to get one going. Would anyone else be interested in giving it a go? I don't have to lead it, but will do so if no one else wants to.

What I'm picturing:

  • Monthly check-in cadence
  • Everyone sets a personal goal, and then talks about how they did the previous month
  • No pressure other than what you want to take on to motivate you
  • Maybe some "assignments" in the vein of a creative writing class
  • I volunteer to send members reminder DMs to motivate them :)

I was thinking I'd just start with this post - come up with a goal for myself to accomplish by end of June, and then check back sometime in the first week of July. If that sounds interesting to you, feel free to join in and comment with your goal, and any details you want to add.

PS Also very open to writing club discussion meta. I'm new to this so wide open to suggestios, comments, critique, etc.

I just started playing Tunic. I've heard several people say it's great, so I'm going in blind.

First impressions were that the aesthetics do not feel interesting. The graphics look like default unity polygonal, and animation is quite rough. Physics objects are floaty and feel insubstantial. The outdoor lighting burns the colours in some areas, which feels unintentional.

But after 3 sessions of about 30m to 2h, I can say that I'm loving this game. The sense of mystery and discovery is masterfully embedded in a world that feels increasingly charming, the more it gets its hooks into you.
