Thanks, I rushed and used the wrong link. I've updated the post link now.

Unfortunately had an injury and couldn't walk along with them. Good on them for having the guts and solidarity to walk out together.

Someone in /r/australia noticed that contradiction too:

Mr Park said it would be impossible to "essentially erode the gap in wages in a single year" because it would cost the state several hundred million dollars.

...

Their frustrations were heightened when on Monday NSW Police officers were offered an historic pay increase of up to 39 per cent over the next four years, at a cost of almost $700 million.

...

Sewell was in contact with the Christchurch mosque shooter too.

More specifically, trying to recruit Tarrant to their organisation.

He is a cunning little thing, very good at walking the line without ever crossing it.

You're giving them too much credit. They've been found guilty (community service only) for attacking a security guard outside Channel 9 in 2021, was jailed for a month for the hiker incident and subsequently their org was raided, they've been beaten down by police in public on parliament steps (only after antifascists intentionally gave the police a premise to intervene) and if you want to count it, their lackeys attempted to attack a fundraiser armed with knives which would have certainly crossed lines if they weren't chased back up the street like the children they are.

What they're very good at is not being punished by the law or the cops. Sewer doesn't deserve credit for that.

Tom Sewer is a terrorist, they just kinda suck at it.

That said, their shift in public rhetoric is noteworthy. They've always been this kind of mask-off behind closed doors (see antifascist leaks and the joint media investigation where someone infiltrated their group with cameras on) but IIRC they tactically saught to play the 'they started it' card, avoiding explicit violence unless hit first. "Optics", you know.

edit: Ah, that lovely loaded quote about protecting the children. It would be easier to take it seriously if there weren't at least two known loud-and-proud child marriage advocates in their ranks, and a member lurking playgrounds to put propaganda stickers in them (10:45). The NSN didn't earn the nickname "Groomerwaffen SS" for nothing.

No no no, you see, they can quit and risk starvation any time they want! It's totally different! Fine! Ethical!

A "neat and tidy" flat?! Beggars can't be choosers, you know. lower your expectations, Rose.

Lemmy allows editing the post link, so if you find the normal Guardian link then please update this post.

Zedda is a new one to me, but I reckon it will stick.

But Was He Really the First to Fly in Australia?

This kind of question clearly depends on the definition of flight, but it would have been nice for the article to give an honourable mention to Lawrence Hargrave, who lived in Australia since age 15.

Of great significance to those pioneers working toward powered flight, Hargrave successfully lifted himself off the ground under a train of four of his box kites at Stanwell Park Beach on 12 November 1894.

Obviously very different to a piloted and controlled flight like the Wright Brothers and these examples, but certainly notable.

by not using the countries name

"America" is not their country's name either ("USA" is actually closer, now that you mention it)

Join us to rally for the rights of the CFMEU and defend our democratic rights.

The new legislation targeting the CFMEU, stripping away its democratic processes based on unproven rumours is still standing. This is a dangerous precedent, threatening every union member’s right to organise and be heard. This precedent is undemocratic and anti-union! Let’s show up and demand these unjust laws be repealed!

It's important to understand the administration as a precedent, rather than specifically looking at the CFMEU. This has already had a chilling effect on other unions wanting to avoid similar repression, and just like many times before, sets up an attack for the Liberal Party to extend when next elected. That's why it's critical for other workers like us to stand together in solidarity, before there's no strong unions left to stand for ours. I urge those who can to come and bring friends, and those who can't to donate to the campaign - since the administration has seized the union's funds, they are relying on the generosity of other unions and political parties for printing fliers, buying flags, providing spaces and other basic organising needs.

The CFMEU are hosting rallies in various cities this Tuesday and are encouraging the community to join them. Despite any critiques we have of the union leadership, it is important to show solidarity in protesting the dictatorial union-busting administration laws, which were covered well in a post made here this week and which have a serious chilling effect on other unions and workers altogether as we fight for better conditions. Among other things, it's noteworthy that the CFMEU have been one of the few unions to strike in solidarity with Palestine encampment protestors at ANU.

"We encourage all members of the community to join us. CFMEU members deserve control over their Union, just like any other worker. Together, we stand strong to defend the future of our families and our union. ✊"

CHECK YOUR OWN CITY, the following are just some examples I've been able to find out so far, and more are being added as I've typed:

Linked is the USyd magazine article published by their Student’s Representative Council.

The article says 'over 500 students', although other sources such as Green Left estimate over 700, with even News Corp publications (The Australian, Sky News, etc.) claiming almost 800 students.

One part which isn't mentioned in those articles: Witnesses at the meeting told me there was some attempt to finish up the meeting before the second motion could be declared, which was counted with a chorus of "Let us stay!". Apparently the meeting was only scheduled for an hour and delayed by a filibuster from a S4P speaker.

Unfortunately the guides I could find for Dixon Street (Chinatown) were ten years old and the places no longer exist, but I've heard there's a place somewhere upstairs in Dixon House Food Court with huge plates for average prices.

Outside of this and memories of the Town Hall classic 'Big Bite', I wouldn't know where to start.

When I try and upload an image for my avatar, I receive the message:

{"data":{"files":null,"msg":"ffprobe Failed with exit status: 1"},"state":"success"}

This happened with both a WebP and a PNG file, so I suspect it's a bug.

I can upload images fine here, and when I export my account details it shows a valid image URL for my avatar.
