Income. Everything else can be proportional, but if income isn't, we're fucked.

I've actively been trying to have as much as possible in AV1, and before that, h265. A lot of my older material is still in h264.

That said, I generally have the following patterns:

  • 720p media at feature length should be about 1 GB, if not less.

  • 1080p media at feature length in h265 should be between 1.5-2GB. Ideally more towards 1.5GB. The same 1080p media in AV1 should be about 30% smaller.

I simply don't see the need to encode at higher bitrates to have larger file sizes than that. I don't see significant difference at 1080p.

And what about if you were a US Supreme Court justice under constant public scrutiny?

Personally, I'm tired of franchises. I don't want to see more money grabs when a movie does well. Let's bring new ideas to the table.

The industry has been so obsessed with reducing monetary risk that franchises have taken over.

Another way to say this: if no one can afford housing, no one retires or has a nest egg.

That's a fact, but like, I'd prefer not to be homeless when I can't retire.

This. I've struggled to explain the general malaise, especially to older people, but you are completely right here. There is simply no point to anything anymore. Things used to operate such that hard work = reward. Now, the reward has been almost universally removed. The system itself is failing, and any hard work just makes some other rich person richer.

Whew, I'm glad someone is blasting here. I can't imagine a world where someone doesn't get put on blast for their actions.

What did we do before judges and anyone with authority learned to blast people like this? Must have been even crazier before all this blasting. A true world without consequences.

Tangentially related, but I've had a "Tap here to accept the Samsung terms of service" notification for years now. I always swipe it away. I swear they always show it right after I had a bunch of other notifications to make me more likely to tap it. I have thus made it my life's mission to never accept it.

The controller, yes. The display itself, no, as far as I can tell.

That brings it outside of the reasonable range for most people, I would think.

Am I right in suggesting that e-ink displays remain artificially overpriced because of the company that ultimately owns the patent?
