Hottest would be 49°C in Marrakech, in the middle of August. I remember Moroccans talking about how hot it was, and a big thunderstorm broke that evening with torrential rain.

Coldest would be at home in the UK. Probably the coldest I've experienced would be about -7°C, that's pretty extreme where I am though and it would be the night time temperature. I remember a few years ago going clubbing in winter and someone robbed my coat, I had to walk home at 3am in about -3°C with my friends trying to keep me warm. Not fun.

Thank you for this comment, I was logging out and back in over and over getting more and more frustrated, I just cleared the storage and the cache and bingo! Working like a dream. It didn't help that I was having trouble opening some of my documents on a work system at the same time, I was starting to get paranoid that the computer overlords were deleting me.

Sitting on my sofa reading the paper with the TV on mute before I had to go to work. Looked up and thought huh that's a weird film to be on daytime TV. Realised it was breaking news and put the sound on. I think both planes had crashed at that point.

Left to get the bus to go do my shift in the pub I worked in. I remember there was a guy on the bus on his phone (still not ubiquitous at this point) saying "I'm not kidding man one of the fucking towers has completely collapsed". I got to work, it was about 5pm at this point so the pub was starting to get a bit busier with some of our regulars already in, I tried telling them what had happened but I don't think they really understand the enormity of it. There was no TV in the pub, and people didn't have the internet on their phones, they all just went 'huh' and went back to their pints and conversations. It was only the next day after everyone had been home and seen the footage themselves that it was the only topic of conversation.

I knew at the time that it was the start of a war, and that everything was about to change, for the worse. I marched against the war with 1 to 2 million other people in London, because we knew it was wrong. All the politicians who still took us there were either liars, or dangerous idiots, or both. Tony Blair should be in prison.

I was just having this conversation yesterday. Also live on my own, I think mine is 60/40 fridge/freezer, and I need more freezer space. I'm sure I waste a lot of energy with the freezer door open trying to fit everything in like a game of Tetris. I don't understand the law of physics that says that when I take something out of the freezer and use some of it, there's no longer space to put the (now smaller) thing back in? I can only assume it's freezer gremlins messing with me. Ideally a 50/50 or 40/60 fridge freezer would do me I think, but when you're limited to buying cheap and / or second hand you don't tend to have many options.

I just finished bingeing Poker Face, really enjoyed that, and I've been listening a lot to the latest Anohni album https://youtu.be/F2cF9o7FuU4.

Oh yeah, I've read up on the explanation since, but for me it doesn't really add anything. It doesn't take away anything either. I think it was just so captivating I didn't need any meaning. That probably makes me sound far more shallow than I am but hey ho.

I didn't get the allegory in Mother, and I didn't really care. Totally wtf, but I loved how nightmarish it was, and how it looked visually, I was completely enthralled.

I live in the north of England, I'd be a plant murderer if I did this!

Dry cured bacon is the way to go. More expensive per pack, but the other stuff disappears in the pan once the water has evaporated, so I don't think it's actually better value than the dry cured. Thick cut from a butcher if you can, supermarket stuff is sliced so thin it's almost see through.

The Algarve is full of British people (sorry) so you should be able to get vegetarian food. Although yeah with it being a tourist destination it's probably more expensive. The Algarve has never appealed to me tbh, golf courses and British ex pats, no thanks. I often travel with my vegan best mate and she's always managed, including in Porto, and in Spain. It's limited but if you can deal with chips (fries), salad, olives, and cheese you can get by. And most cities have at least a few vegetarian/vegan restaurants and cafes.

If you come to the UK you should know we're having a pretty crap summer right now, lots of rain, hopefully that should improve though. And if you're not into hot weather then the UK is definitely the right place for you! I'd choose Portugal and Spain in a heartbeat over here, the old towns and cities are much more beautiful, and less grey, but each to their own. I hope you manage to have a good time. I think having a little add on trip that's what you want to do is definitely the way to go in making this bearable. It does annoy me when people expect all their friends and family to spend a lot of money just because they've decided to get married.
