What is your budget and how much space do you need? I'm seeing 1tb external drives on amazon for about 50 usd.

If you really need a budget option, you could get a sata usb cable and make use of any old hard drives laying around.

I also recommend backing up to a cloud for reliability.

Are you on the east coast of the US? Greetings from the west coast, I definitely sympathize with the feeling of relief once the wildfires get put out and the smoke clears.

For my part, I'm enjoying the warm weather and clear skies, and the end of allergy season!

Not a fan of this type of surveillance on kids. Also, tiktok has probably already trained them on creative ways to bypass word filters

Are there any countries that aren't using AI to automate workers out?

I feel like several things are intersecting here:

  1. PC gaming took off in the 90s. I'm not clear on the history of consoles but I'm wondering if they became widespread in the 80s? Having these devices at home probably created a larger generation of gamers.

  2. Gaming was "for boys" until very recently, and tbh the inclusion of women as the default audience for games is still a work in progress. Game protagonists are usually male, romance options usually assume the player is a straight man, even the quests and the way NPCs are written are colored by these assumptions.

  3. Video games have gotten so much more complex in a very short amount of time. The storylines are richer, the writing and visual effects have gotten signifixlcantly better. Someone who has only experienced early arcade games or clicker mobile games wouldn't see gaming in general as a worthy hobby for adults.

Works on lemmy. Thanks!

Just tested it and it also works with mastodon and pixelfed, but I don't see any posts. I'm wondering if it just takes time to cache.

Has it gotten any larger? And do you have a photo from further away?

I think lemmy looks nicer visually. I'll probably give kbin a try at some point.

All fediverse software (lemmy, kin, mastodon, etc) implements their own version of ActivityPub in slightly different ways. There are cases where the overlap is enough to cross over (lemmy communities and kbin magazines), and some where it doesn't work/is wonky (lemmy users can't follow mastodon users).

There's a more in depth write up here if you're curious: https://overengineer.dev/blog/2019/01/13/activitypub-final-thoughts-one-year-later.html

Most news sites have rss feeds, sometimes even by category.

Tumblr also supports rss, and a bunch of people have fandom specific or aesthetic blogs. Tumblr's tag system remains one of the best, so I'd use that to find interesting blogs to follow.

Wow the potential for a /c/lemmydrama is already brewing with that admin's responses lol.

I see what they mean about petite/young looking people, but is this the hill they really want to die on? They're making proper moderation more difficult for themselves by splitting hairs.
