It's unclear how many users you would actually exclude, I think a lot of users who are on the fediverse right now don't want to have anything to do with Meta.
As the fediverse grows, there will be different bubbles with not much interaction between those, mainly because some instances won't be moderated while others will try to create discrimination free environments.
They pledge to defederate from Meta, I'd go one step further and defederate from any instance that federates with Meta.
They shouldn't just defederate from Meta, they should defederate from any other instances that federate with Meta. Like a firewall against late stage capitalism

Dass Reiche sich Umweltzerstörung leisten können ist ein Problem, das völlig losgelöst von einem CO2-Preise ist. Aber auch die würden auf klimaneutralere Alternativen umsteigen, wenn es billiger wäre.
Eine CO2-Steuert ist nichts, was alle unsere Probleme im Alleingang löst, aber sie würde helfen.
Ich wäre für eine Art Allianz, die sich von allen Instanzen deföderiert, die mit Meta föderieren.
Dass das nicht zusätzlich passieren soll sagt ungefähr niemand. Ändert nix daran, dass beim Fliegen unverhältnismäßig viele Kosten externalisiert werden und es dadurch in Anbetracht der Folgen viel zu billig ist.
