I'm looking for recommendations for WWII single player fps games for the pc. In particular, I'm looking for older games from the 90s to early 2000s. I always hear how the market used to be over saturated with these games, but after playing through the early Call of Duties and Medals of Honor, I don't know of any games that would scratch that itch. I've heard of Brothers in Arms, but it looks too focused on squad management to me. I've also tried looking at older shooters not set in WWII, but the main thing I miss is the openness of them? I guess I don't like how most other games look like they'll have walking in closed corridors all the time, but if you have any suggestions for any other "open" games, I'd be interested as well. Also, if you know of any total conversion mods for the games I mentioned, or a Doom wad that would fit the criteria, let me know as well. Thanks

Nice overall, but you need to do something about that scrollbar. Look for some extension to hide it or style it.

I played Knight's of Pen and Paper (and 2) and enjoyed it quite a bit, even though, I don't usually like turn-based RPGs. And I think I figured out exactly what about that game made me enjoy it - there's no walking. I mean, there's no world, where you control a single character and can move in any direction, all there is is a map, you click on a location and your party is there. So I'm looking for a turn-based party RPG with no walking. Anyone know of any such games?

I did a little review of my favorite source ports here: https://beehaw.org/post/477938

I discovered Lemmy as a reddit alternative once they introduced the api changes, and from what I understand, so did most of the current users. So I was wondering what was Lemmy like before that? Did any notable things or inside jokes happened? If you are one of the old users are you happy with this growth? Is there anything you'll miss?

I recently got the Stardew Valley Board Game for my birthday and it's a blast. I was never really in to board games, but I always wanted to play one that is cooperative rather than competitive. Stardew Valley still manages to be a thrilling experience and quite a challenge (at least for a novice like myself).

I wanted to share some of my favorite community source ports and engine remakes I played.

OpenMW - TES:Morrowind

As a long time Skyrim player and a lover of co-op I was always looking for a co-op TES experience and TES3MP (a fork of OpenMW) gave me just that. Everything worked super smooth and we were able to finish the main quest (and many many side quests) without any trouble. https://openmw.org/

CorsixTH - Theme Hospital

I played this game growing up on the PS1 and seeing it running on my modern Linux machine in HD was very nice and nostalgic. If you like management simulators this is a classic you should check out! https://corsixth.com/

Daggerfall Unity - TES:Daggerfall

Another TES game. Daggerfall Unity makes Daggerfall playable for the modern gamer, fixing many of the bugs and adding many QoL features and, IMO most importantly mod support. Daggerfall unity is really what you make it as the community has made mods expanding the game in various ways. https://www.dfworkshop.net/

GZDoom - Doom

I'm sure this game needs no introduction, but I still wanted to add it here to show appreciation for all the work this community has done over all these years. Need to blow off some steam killing demons? Doom. Have a low spec pc and want to game? Doom. Need something for a LAN party? Doom.

DevilutionX - Diablo I

Since I enjoyed many Diablo clones it was very interesting to see where it all began. Even though the game is obviously missing a lot by today's standards, it's surprising to see just how much was there right from the beginning. DevilutionX (a less faithful fork of Devilution) makes the game playable on many platforms and includes all the usual QoL and resolution improvements bringing this game to the modern era. https://github.com/diasurgical/devilutionX

What are your thoughts about projects like these? Have you played any of them or any others? What games would you like to see get this treatment?
