Heat pumps installations are a racket out in the US right now, it's artificial expense to pad out pockets, there is no practical reason it need be that expensive.
I requested taking ownership of !mealtimevideos@lemmy.world a few months ago. Posting a request in this support forum is hit or miss, but sending an email to info@mastodon.world (to create a support ticket, as it says in the sidebar) about it got a response from an admin quite quickly, so I'd recommend that route.
I suspect that while most conservatives would prefer someone more 'close to home', there's two things that may appeal:
- They may reference him to stave off claims of racism. "See? I woulda voted for him if Trump weren't running, you can't call me racist!"
- He says the right things, and he's independently wealthy, which gives him that 'outsider' status that they also bestow upon Trump. With those two things, he might be deemed 'one of the good ones'.
Ultimately, few will opt for him over Trump, and their allegiance to him would likely be far more fickle, as they cannot identify with him as much.
Ahh, I forgot that Chomsky took that stance. I generally liked his opinions on things, but as he's gotten older, his views have gone a bit odd.
Looking into it a bit further, I was surprised to see the DSA officially doesn't support sending arms to Ukraine (though the DSA members in congress do support it). I get that they're anti-war, and don't want to support the military industrial complex any further, but at least in this specific case, it seems shortsighted of them.
I stand corrected.
From what I've seen, at least in the US, it's mostly conservatives that bring up those arguments to cease support, seemingly stemming from the whole "Zelensky didn't get dirt on Biden for Trump, so he's evil and corrupt!" thing. I don't know if it's different elsewhere.
We need to focus on prefigurative politics, I.e, build the world we want to see with direct action, unionizing, and mutual aid, since voting and governments are never going to do it for us.
However, who is in charge of your country will make those prefigurative politics more or less hard, or even impossible (can't imagine much of the above going on in Nazi Germany...)
I think it goes without saying that it will be less hard under Harris.
