Seriously, you can't make this shit up.

I am considering writing a blog post on WriteFreely or something to wrap things up later. Comparing the features and flow for certain tasks could be interesting. I assume most people on the fediverse haven't tried more than a couple platforms (I had only signed up for 3 despite using the fediverse since 2015).

I just have to decide how far I really wanna go with this, since there's a spectrum between general impressions and a deep dive into every meaningful feature. If I do that, I'll be tempted to report any bugs I find. ๐Ÿ˜… So I guess we'll see what happens.

I think IceShrimp is actually really good and a bit more polished than Misskey in certain ways. Akkoma's nice since it's so minimalist, and Friendica is surprisingly featureful (it even federates with Diaspora). But yeah, so far IceShrimp feels the most satisfying to use.

Oh, I actually made all of these accounts just to come to terms with the granular differences (and interactions) between each platform. The main reason I have all these accounts is to run little experiments to see how all the functionality works and to try underutilized features that I wouldn't normally touch on my main fediverse account.

My hope is that I can come to a more informed decision about which platform I should use long-term for my main account. Migrating just to try out something new can be challenging, after all. I also want to determine whether I should bother having more than one fediverse account.

Yeah, it really just feels like a refined version of Mastodon in many ways. If Mastodon suits your style, Glitch Edition may well be the best choice for microblogging.

Absolutely, I think the last time I had this much fun on social media was back when forums and GeoCities were the norm.

I think algorithms are fine if they're completely transparent and customizable. Knowing exactly why you're seeing what you're seeing and being able to choose different 'lenses' to view the fediverse through would be awesome. Just having some mixable sorting options would make a big difference on the microblog side.

I suppose we have some choice as certain fediverse platforms handle this slightly differently. However, I think a focus on user-driven algorithms could make these platforms even more compelling than they already are.

Alt Text: A screenshot of the tab bar and address bar of Firefox where twelve different fediverse websites are pinned. There is a new DuckDuckGo search being made in the address bar saying, "I think I might have a problem."

The 12 services are Mastodon, Glitch Edition, Misskey, IceShrimp, Akkoma, Friendica, Lemmy, Kbin, PieFed, Pixelfed, BookWyrm, and PeerTube.

I agree with both of you. Damn, that was pretty easy.

Especially now that they're selling refurbished models at a heavy discount, you can get into the Framework ecosystem pretty easily and upgrade the mainboard later.

Thank you for sharing this list, we should probably be more aware of the sacrifice these people have made. The vast majority of the Americans have done it for honorable causes.

They inherited tons of good stuff people seem to ignore. I think that's partly because big chunks of that library are still available on other services, but if they decide to make everything they own exclusive, it'll be much more of a pain in the ass.
