probably the creator of the community want to select who can enter and who cannot, it's like for private Instagram profile, the owner have to accept your request

I agree with this, I mean, we used reddit because we had reddit, if there is better options I don't see why we should stick with reddit
sometimes it also happen on the website (at least for me) so I don't think it's some jerboa bug, also note that this app is not even in beta at the moment, just give it some time.
the list contains just some major well known instance, you can put any instances you want if you know the domain name
it happened to me on other instances as well, it might be a general lemmy bug
