I just have my Xfinity modem in bridge mode. They looked at me like I had two heads when I asked if they could tell me how to do it at the counter but it was trivial by searching the model number.

https://www.uber.com/us/en/r/cities/taxi/minneapolis-mn-us/

Sure looks like I can get an Uber in Minneapolis today. I can't get past the login page to see if I can actually request a ride but the web page is still there, indicating that Uber is still in Minneapolis

Debian testing on a MacBook Air 6,2 (2013). I guess that's kinda weird. Works fine as a netbook: Firefox, Thunderbird, TigerVNC (handles the low resolution well) and SSH. That's all I ask of the thing and it works fine. The only hardware that doesn't work is the webcam, everything else is 100%

It was a free hand-me-down and I put a $45 battery in it so I can use it on the couch. I think what will kill it is when the proprietary charger dies, they cost more used on ebay than the battery did.

The OS is in between the service and the bare metal. Something like OPNsense can be said to be running on bare metal because the OS and the firewall service are so intertwined. However, something like firewalld isn't running on the bare metal because it's just a service of the operating system.

That's how I understand it anyway, I'm not a pro

but the UI is substantially better than Android

For children and drunks, maybe.

For someone in Russia, the impermanence might be a desirable feature. I mean, there's always still IRC but Discord is all the rage these days.

Get off my lawn.

I would loathe permanent DST.

I work construction and for the past decade or so the General Contractors have only been paying the electricians to install "life safety" lighting. Basically, it's enough light to navigate the hallways and especially the stairways. We are on our own to light any other areas. This is why nearly all construction workers now wear headlamps, it's dark as shit in most of the site.

So, we just had the DST change obviously and now I have to use my headlamp for about an hour every morning even if I'm next to a window. The latest sunrise in Denver would be something like 0815 if we were on permanent DST. That's two full hours every morning for at least a week stumbling around with a damn headlamp.

Detroit's latest sunrise would be 0850, I think. That's insanity. I feel for the people that are stuck in the 8-5 office grind and want to walk their dog after work but damn it would be a huge PITA for anyone who works at 0600. I don't know if I could take it.

“As funny as this sounds, several years ago, I was walking in a Veterans Day parade, and a veteran … that was watching the parade, an older gentleman, gets up from his lawn chair – he actually walks into the parade route, shook my hand and said: ‘Before I die, would you end daylight savings time?’” Lankford recounted.
“He said: ‘I hate it. I’m in my 80s. I want you to get rid of daylight savings time before I die.’”

...

Lankford’s bill would eliminate the time change by making daylight savings time apply year-round in the US.

So basically Lankford is bragging that he wants to do exactly the opposite of this (probably fictional) constituent actually wants. They don't grow 'em too smart in Oklahoma.

Doc said I can either pay the copay on 800mg generic Ibuprofen and wait in line at the pharmacy or eat 4 of these. Daily ibuprofen won’t give me a habit and my pain isn’t so bad that I would even want opioid medication.

It’s way cheaper to buy the 200mg in bulk.

Colorado House Bill 21-1229 is law here now, maybe your state can pass a bill like it too?

I'm all-in on trying to ratfuck Trump so I'll be voting in the (R) primary

Zerlyna must be busy today so I figured I'd just affirm that today, January 1st I will be happy to not drink alcohol with you today.

We may be anonymous strangers on the internet, but we have one thing in common. We may be a world apart, but we’re here together!

Welcome to the 24 hour pledge! I’m pledging myself to not drinking today, and invite you to do the same.

Maybe you’re new to c/stopdrinking and have a hard time deciding what to do next. Maybe you’re like me and feel you need a daily commitment or maybe you’ve been sober for a long time and want to inspire others.

It doesn’t matter if you’re still hung over from a three day bender or been sober for years, if you just woke up or have already completed a sober day. For the next 24 hours, let’s not drink alcohol!
