Yeah. Russia has not just stepped back from New Start program, there are now rumors(?) that Russia is going to put nuclear weapons in orbit.

The US helped Saudi Arabia bomb the shit out of Yemen for a long time (search). I'm not properly educated about this myself but there are war crimes, starvation, a lot of shit. I mean you can't keep up. But to them, enforcing sanctions against Israel creates local support, otherwise they are a pretty bad Islamist regime. The Houthis are also not proxys of Iran. So US bombing them probably helps them too internally.

But there is so much shit going on that it's hard to keep up.

I think people are going a bit overboard with the reddit hate. I used the site for over a decades, learned a lot and had a lot of laughts and fun and gripes. To want to "burn it down" now because of api and ai stuff is understandable, but seems just vindictive. What public good is supposed to be achieved with this?

There is a debate to be had. But just as women benefit from women only spaces men might benefit from it too. Because sexual selection always plays a role in social dynamics, especially at that age. But I'm not sure it needs institutions for that, and that also isn't an argument for men only "good old boys clubs". More about good male (non toxic) role models.

What you get now are vile role models online that are actively pushing toxic masculinity or even fascism.

Attacking food supply is despicable or even terrorism and a crime against humanity. Especially in times of climate crisis and climate refugees. They should throw those responsible in jail.

Using IP laws to legislate this could also lead to disastrous consequences, like the monopolization of effective AI. If only those with billions in capital can make use of these tools, while free or open source models become illegal to distribute, it could mean a permanent power grab. If the capitalists end up controlling the "means of generation" and we the common folk can't use it.

My explanation would be that the GOP was moving towards fascism for decades (dogwhistles etc.). Worsening of material conditions (effective QOL), propaganda or "talking points" on news and social media that became more and more detached from reality, fearmongering (wars, terrorism, islam, socialists, corruption, climate change) paved the way for him. He's just the symptom. Without the greed of the mainstream media to give his BS free airtime he couldn't have done it. But the time was right for someone like him because the old bullshit didn't cut it anymore. You see very similar all around the world (south america, india, europe, russia)

Normally the political system also heavily filters who gets to rise to power. He managed as an outsider because he was known.

I imagine that theoretically you could have algorithms or machine learning to calibrate this. Like make test sounds so you see how the sound diffuses and then filter it out.
