Ok, I guess this is a matter of opinion, but 'cops going around asking people about some purple rocks' just doesn't pass the sniff test for me

Surely the point is that the OP couldn't possibly have known what the authority thought about their painted stones, unless:

  1. they had a personal contact, which is quite the omission

or

  1. the authorities were putting up posters around town, interviewing door-to-door etc

The thing is when you're the global hegemon there's no such thing as 'far away'

+1 for borg + hetzner storage box, though externals do give pretty good value for some uses. I have all my movies/tv on a 6tb external and it would have cost so much more to do it any other way

I'm trying out Arch on my laptop atm, and tbh the only real advantage (at least for me) is that the packages tend to be a lot fresher than on Debian-based distros. The question is how many of your packages you really need to be that fresh.

I think a lot of Arch users feel like wizards because they connected to the home wifi using the command line, but if you've tinkered with (/broken then had to fix lol) other distros, you will have done all this stuff before

Jonathan Pryce received a fair bit of criticism in the nineties for his "politically correct" (read, not explicitly antisemitic) portrayal of Fagin in the musical Oliver!. Listening back to the cast recording, it's actually a revelation — Reviewing the Situation, which had always been played for antisemitic laughs, is suddenly revealed as an incredibly powerful song, brimming with pathos.

Yes I agree 100%. There's no other way to do it.

For 'pro-business' read 'swingeing privatisation' but yeah the whole thing is a mess, and I'm not sure it's possible to have 'free and fair' (whatever that means) elections under such conditions.

Wrt reasons to doubt the result, electronic vote counting/voting machines are reason enough imho — but that throws a load of other democracies into question 🤷
