Now would be a great time for him to make good on his threat and pull all US diplomatic support. I think we're still obligated to provide some military equipment because of Congressional acts, but he needs to veto any additional bills for Israel.

Leahy law forbids sending weapons when human rights violations are committed with them.

Biden is already required by law to block arms exports to israel. Stopping it is legally super duper easy

[–] assassin_aragorn@lemmy.world 15 points 5 months ago (1 children)

No disagreements, he should try to invoke the law. It'll end up being a long legal entanglement with Republicans, but he should still do it.

Seems like old man Netanyahu should be the focus of your ire...

[–] stebo02@sopuli.xyz 46 points 5 months ago (1 children)

We also need to hold our politicians accountable for not acting up against Netanyahu.

[–] Eldritch@lemmy.world 27 points 5 months ago (5 children)

Then why is no one calling out the congress responsible for it? Biden didn't pass or fund this. He isn't pushing back against it hard enough. But he's not the one that passed it. Or threatened to campaign against him when he just delayed delivery. I don't see anyone calling out mike Johnson.

[–] stebo02@sopuli.xyz 19 points 5 months ago (1 children)

Yes, I said "our politicians" so everyone responsible should be held accountable

[–] Eldritch@lemmy.world 13 points 5 months ago (1 children)

I agree. Basically no one is doing that. But I agree.

Biden said Iran is equally responsible as Russia for Ukrainian deaths because they supply the weapons. But now that logic doesn’t apply to Biden bypassing Congress and knowingly supplying weapons knowing they are being targeted on civilians?

[–] lorty@lemmy.ml 17 points 5 months ago

I wonder what bombs Netanyahu used

[–] ZombiFrancis@sh.itjust.works 15 points 5 months ago

He is coming to speak to our Congress because he's our special boy. Invited.

[–] Gluten6970@lemm.ee 11 points 5 months ago (21 children)

Biden is still enabling it lmao

If Biden is so innoscent, don't sign the supporting bills then, that's a lot of money.

Being an American is fucking embarrassing. How is it? We got all this military power and we're going to let our own puppet state push us around. Like if we're going to be baddies, at least be THE baddies

Can we bring the Palestinians here in exchange for all our politicians? Shit I'll throw in casual trumpers and blue maga folk as well.

[–] graymess@lemmy.world 8 points 5 months ago

Israel wholly owns the US. It would be humiliating to the Biden administration if they weren't in on the deal. Upholding the military industrial complex is priority number one for every president in history. Literally nothing is more important.

[–] Godric@lemmy.world 48 points 5 months ago (4 children)

I can't believe Netanyahu would disobey his God-King Joe Biden!

America is an imperial power, why isn't their middle eastern colony listening??

[–] PseudorandomNoise@lemmy.world 39 points 5 months ago

Bibi has clearly demonstrated he doesn’t give 2 shits what Biden thinks. We have 3 branches with equal power and one of them keeps inviting Netanyahu to give speeches. Why should he listen to Biden when Congress approves military spending regardless?

[–] anas@lemmy.world 14 points 5 months ago (1 children)

this but unironically

I can’t believe Biden has such a massive humiliation fetish, to be so publicly disrespected, and to such a degree, only to turn around and circumvent Congress to send daddy Bibi 10s of Billions more in US taxpayer dollars just to do it again. Wild!

It's almost like they don't care what anyone says... they are going to do it anyway

[–] Pilferjinx@lemmy.world 11 points 5 months ago

I mean, who's gonna stop them? America? Lol

[–] squid_slime@lemm.ee 33 points 5 months ago (2 children)

Biden needs to denounce these fucked actions

[–] Arbiter@lemmy.world 33 points 5 months ago (2 children)

He will give them such a talking to when delivering the next bomb shipment.

[–] goferking0@lemmy.sdf.org 5 points 5 months ago

Firm finger wagging and leaked talk of him saying mean things in private

He said assaulting rafah was a red line. It's time to occupy Tel Aviv and fuck what Israel has to say about it.

[–] callouscomic@lemm.ee 25 points 5 months ago (1 children)

Obama had a "red line" as well for chemical weapons in Syria. From what I recall, he didn't really do anything once the line was crossed.

[–] SulaymanF@lemmy.world 20 points 5 months ago

Israel is pretending Biden meant a squiggly line and Biden is too much of a coward to follow through on his rhetoric.

[–] FiniteBanjo@lemmy.today 15 points 5 months ago (2 children)

The statement on top was from a while ago, the White House officials said they were examining the issue yesterday and AFAIK haven't given an update.

I hope he does the right thing, I don't particularly have that much faith in him to do the right thing.

Why would Joe Biden order the IDF to do this

[–] archomrade@midwest.social 11 points 5 months ago (15 children)

Why would he continue sending them bombs

What did he mean by "red line" do you suppose?

load more comments (23 replies)
[–] scripthook@lemmy.world 13 points 5 months ago

Except they will keep saying it's an "accident" so it won't cross Biden's "red line" which is what? Not sending weapons but still sending money? He already did that

[–] NoLifeGaming@lemmy.world 12 points 5 months ago

Its been political posturing from the start. All of it.
