So we can keep Biden off the ballot but not his corrupt insurrectionist Putin-backed opponent.

Because as obvious of a traitor trump is, it's vague enough for courts to have issues.
Biden failing to get on is because of dnc incompetence
Current law says Ohio officials must certify the ballot on Aug. 7, 90 days before the election, but Biden won't be nominated until the Democratic National Convention on Aug. 19.
How does a political organization fail to have everything done before states need it. It shouldn't be an issue and dnc manges to make it one
I think a lot of states changed their dates for this express purpose.
2014 law. Dnc just showing their incompetence
Yes. Surprised?
And this is where Trump has an edge. If Trump weren't on the ballot in even one state, he'd be vomiting about it all over his Twitter clone, pressuring lawmakers, and filing lawsuits in every courtroom in the state.
Biden needs to be doing the same thing. Granted, Ohio is typically red, but still....make Trump at least expend some resources there instead of just handing the state over to him.
I would not say ohio is like texas or florida. Im actually surprised by a lot of the midwest going red lately.
You shouldn’t be surprised.
People who work declining agriculture and heavy industry jobs want easy solutions. Republicans promise them easy solutions (tarrifs, bring the jobs back, stop immigration). Democrats bring up difficult things (retraining, actually nothing else).
So of course they want the easy solution. Who wouldn’t (doesn’t matter if it will work or not, the hard one sounds too hard for them).
Dems need to find easy solutions to get those people on board, otherwise they are screwed. Biden has started doing this by embracing tariffs on China (which are not working, but are VERY popular among the people they are slightly hurting).
Dems need to find easy solutions to get those people on board, otherwise they are screwed. Biden has started doing this by embracing tariffs on China (which are not working, but are VERY popular among the people they are slightly hurting).
This is part of the problem that Biden faces just about everywhere, and Trump capitalizes on every opportunity. And when you think about it, there really isn't a viable solution to it.
Trump could say that alien monkeys are flying out of Biden's ass and are threatening to take over Washington DC by unleashing a herd of flying cows. Now of course, Biden and any reasonable person would normally dismiss something that stupid as the inane ramblings of a paranoid schizophrenic or some kind of dementia patient.
The problem is that if you're trying to win an election and 51% of the people who actually are going to vote consider alien monkeys flying out of your ass a very important issue, then you had better come up with a plan to stop alien monkeys from flying out of your ass. Sure, you could try to appeal to logic and say that there are obviously no alien monkeys flying around, but if 51% of people are convinced that the monkeys flying out of your ass are a huge problem, then you'll be appealing to logic during your concession speech.
Trump has exploited this at every opportunity with his firehose of lies. He has managed to convince a significant amount of voters that Biden is responsible for problems that may or may not even exist, and that Biden doesn't have answers for these so-called "problems". And since Biden can't literally disprove the impossible to people who don't want to listen in the first place, it makes Biden seem like he really doesn't have answers for these "issues" that Trump told them are suddenly very important.
Indeed. Ohio is usually a swing state.
Remember when states were not just supposed to choose for the American people?
Well considering the states choose the electors and the electoral college has no obligation to follow the will of the people, no, I don't remember that.
It's been a big giant hole in our system since day one and the fact that we refuse to patch it means that was always intended to be an illusion of choice.
I'm ironically pointing to SCOTUS saying that even if an insurrectionist cannot be president, and the state of Colorado has a law that the secretary of state must check eligibility, that Colorado cannot bar said insurrectionist, because reasons including a "patchwork" of the states and it must be Congress who makes this decision. I guess if the ballot in Georgia and Florida don't have identical candidates lists, that's a constitutional crisis?
And I know it's different but it's not really. Ohio just wants democrats to stay home so Brown loses.
Looking at since the Electoral College has existed from Day 1 of our current constitution, no. Especially since only white land owning males were allowed to vote.
It'd be a massive shock if states didn't decide who won or who lost.
See below. I'm ironically calling out the ruling for CO who is not, apparently, according to their state laws, supposed to decide who is eligible to be on the ballot, because that would lead to a patchwork or whatever.
Wait so the republiQans wouls stoop to just keeping him off the ballot for a procedural, effectively meaningless reason?
Wow who knew they would so easily swing the vote their way when the slightest opportunity would present itself. Certainly not the DNC. Still.
The repubs did warn after the whole 14th sec3 attempt that they would do something like this. Although the law(rule?) was written in 2010, only in '16 did both parties have their primary before the 90 days(I may be slightly off as I just saw this last night and only once), and if it was the repubs that were after and the dems were already done we all know there would be an exemption no problem. The problem here is with the Dems, they forget that MAGA is not the same as the old repubs, there is no honour or gentlemen's agreements anymore. The wheels have come off, there is no precedence they won't flout. The dems should have forsee.... oh, right
Republicans will never stop trying to steal elections
They'll just have to move up the nomination. There's nothing preventing the party from doing so.
Sue.
Why is everyone blaming the state?
To be on the ballot the party needs to declare their candidate by a certain date.
The DNC picked a date so late, that it missed these deadlines. And just expected the states to change the rules for them. Like how the DNC told NH to violate their state laws and push back their primary.
They don't care about rules and regulations, they'll do what they want and demand everyone accommodate it.
But this whole thing never made sense.
They schedule the convention super late, but they also want to declare the primary over after a handful of their favorite states get to vote and 90% of the states haven't yet.
Just pick a fucking lane. If the DNC wants the primary over quickly, why schedule the convention so late that they can't go on ballots?
And I'll never understand why anyone can look at this situation, understand what's happening, and blame anyone except the unelected idiots running the DNC because they can bring in the most donations from billionaires and corporations.
I say more why blame the states rather than the courts. courts already forced a state to keep a canidate on the ballot this year so why not now? That being said I would actually love to see him win as a write in. I know that will not happen but it would be such a bald face loss for trump it would be awesome.
Dunno why the down votes. Looks like you're giving fucks in all the right places.
DNC needs to stop making the election process a game they play. The primary (and having a real one) matters.
At least super delegates are less of a thing now.
Edit: on -> in
People hate when DNC or Biden are rightfully criticized.
Like we all knew they were dumb but how dumb enough to miss getting a presidential candidate on ballots because of when they picked their convention dates
Criticism makes people fear a bad election result. Reflexive defense or down votes happen. He'll, I've reflexively cautioned against not voting.
We're somewhere that doesn't keep global score. It's nice when people agree with upvotes, but truth is truth.
And I'll vote Biden because much as I despise some of the recent acts... Things could be much worse.
I have kids. They deserve democracy. I don't have the privilege of pretending I give no fucks or I can burn it all down in protest. My fucks just aren't always perfectly aligned with the DNC.
They almost always align with the Bern tho.
Shrug. The Good Place got it right. No getting out of this place pure.
There's a big push that voters should never ask anything of politicians...
They want us to just show up and vote for our "team"
So anyone that talks about how the party can change to get more votes, gets down votes.
Their not interested in getting more votes, they want more obedient voters.
But just because I understand what's happening, doesn't mean I understand why they're doing it.
They say all that matters is beating Republicans, but if that's what they're trying for, you'd think it would mean they want the party to run popular candidates.
Thing is, since 2010 there have been accommodations to BOTH parties except in '16 where they both did it before the 90 day thing. Dems still should have known better, should have
They knew better
Rules are for the poor, why should we have known we had to follow them?
-The DNC being absolutely tone deaf
Like, I have no doubt that's what happened. But it's just terrible messaging to the Dem base.
