Also happy mother's day to everyone, and if you're someone that's struggling today, I hope you have the best day you can ❤️

One of my only 2 referneces has decided he no longer wants to be one. I asked why and he said "he doesn't have time".

Fucking great. Just great.

[–] tone212_@aussie.zone 10 points 6 months ago

What? Being a reference is a one phone call job. What an ass.

[–] StudChud@aussie.zone 8 points 6 months ago

Shit! Do you have any mates that might be able to cover for you? Like be a reference for you at all?

[–] melbaboutown@aussie.zone 5 points 6 months ago

I feel like there should totally be a group of people who band together to act as each others reference when they don't otherwise have anybody. Mutual aid and all that.

Fiverr? Do they do that?

It depends on giving out your names and possibly details tho, and the referring person answering unknown numbers.

heh park party rave was great. They really did that well.

Trying to find it really took me back. You can hear it but it's like a km away and you're walking in darkness trying to find it and not to trip over shit.

[–] dumblederp@aussie.zone 5 points 6 months ago

I like that they said they were shutting it down at 11pm. I think evening park raves are a great idea given how much everything costs usually. We need to make more use of our 3rd spaces.

It is strangely satisfying when your side of a minor Reddit argument gets the most upvotes. Also slightly disturbing, given that this feeling is what no doubt fuels unhealthy pile-ons where everyone wants to join in on the "winning side" and abandons rational argument entirely. I should be the better person and focus on the benefits of thoughtful and reasoned discussion over competitive point scoring. But just for a little bit I'm going with HA HA you petty judgemental b*&% I win.

[–] tone212_@aussie.zone 10 points 6 months ago (2 children)

I may or may not have not trespassed on private property (without realising) to get this shot, but the view was so nice

[–] Bottom_racer@aussie.zone 5 points 6 months ago

ooh another really nice one!

Friend came over and we moved off the last of the planter boxes from my balcony. It's so sad and empty now. And it's an effing pain to go pick some herbs or water my plants or anything - gotta exit my apt, go down two sets of steps, open the main door, walk 300m, back up another flight... plants are in a more exposed area too, I worry about the curry leaf plants. I see the snails have already gotten to some of my seedlings in absence of my maintenance. :/

I really hope the landlord gets the balcony fixed soon because it's denying me use of space that I'm paying for. If she drags it out thinking it's a bonus for her to have all my pesky plants in the common area and not on her balcony, I'll definitely contact Tenants Vic to figure out my options.

Hate that the rental market is such that I don't have much leverage to say fuck you I'll move. (also as much as I'm tired of the area I live in, it's so close to my new job that I'm not sure I do want to move further out for now).

Gonna try and not stew on this and instead get to work reorganising and watering everything + applying copper tape on all the pots not just the biggest ones

So much Eurovision drama. Joost has been disqualified for… something. Meanwhile myf and Joel’s commentary of Israel was just… I mean Joel opened in with a loud audible sigh. That sort of tells you everything. Norways jury voice has pulled out, Ireland are pissed at Israel, meanwhile Israel somehow got through with one of the weaker songs of the night? Crazy stuff.

Sadly I won’t be checking any socials between now and tomorrow night when I’ve watched the grand final, but maaaaaaaan spewing I’m gonna miss the updates in between cause it sounds like the Dutch and Irish are about to go to war with the EBU.

[–] just_kitten@aussie.zone 11 points 6 months ago

I keep forgetting about Eurovision every year but this year my funny reminder of it was randomly looking through SmartTraveller advice out of curiosity and seeing Sweden on the "exercise a high degree of caution" list because......... Eurovision results are out soon and there may be unrest.

Lmfao.

Israel is currently second behind Croatia in the odds. They didn’t just get through, they may take out the whole thing. The drama of that win… but I think Croatia’s got it.

[–] bacon@aussie.zone 9 points 6 months ago (1 children)

still in disbelief that the best sky pretty photo i got last night was from my living room window

[–] PeelerSheila@aussie.zone 6 points 6 months ago (2 children)

Bacon: takes pretty sky photo from living room window using phone camera.

Me: goes outside, waits until optimal time, puts phone camera in night mode with long exposure and captures these..

[–] SituationCake@aussie.zone 5 points 6 months ago (1 children)

Same except mine was just bright with light pollution. I even went to a nearby park and still nothing. Maybe my timing was wrong or bad location. I will just have to live vicariously through other people’s photos.

Philosophical side note: we all live in the same world but some of us get auroras and some of us don’t. Hmmm.

[–] RustyRaven@aussie.zone 5 points 6 months ago (1 children)

Bacon is serving aurora jelly you might like if you missed out on sky pretty.

Google timeline for April just arrived. According to Google the highlights of my month were a trip to the dentist in Blackburn South, followed by my exciting shopping trip to Supercheap Auto to get headlight bulbs. Sadly, I think this may be accurate 🤣

The worst part of the plant stuff is done. I still need to repot my manzano and prune back the red hot poker, and buy some veg to make dinner and meals for the next few days. Plus figure out what to do with all this rosemary I pruned off, and stock up on some oil and rice so I don't need to do it after my trip...

...and despite all my going on about it, I've yet to start on my scotch bonnet pepper ferment. I gotta do that today so I can move that plant out onto the common area too.

Plus I still haven't organised a full itinerary for my trip in 10 days time, I have an idea of where to go but need to sort out accom asap...

Argh, I want to just lie down and enjoy the rest of the day! I have a busy week ahead next week too, stuff on after work every single day 😫 and the weekend needs to be set aside for packing. I think I need to really be disciplined with my work end times the next week. No hanging around for a yarn

[–] Seagoon_@aussie.zone 7 points 6 months ago (1 children)

Good luck and same here.

I have a lot of household and garden tasks, necessary shopping and I feel very motivated to do lots of art practice. I will have to start getting up early if I want to get stuff done!! 😊 Thankfully I am bored with tv and politics/news now so that won't be wasting my time.

There's 2 days in a month where I give my ovaries what it wants. Today they got pancakes and Singapore noodles and a wheat bag. Later they may need some chocolate and Bailey's.

@Seagoon_ Not the weekend I was planning for.

I was planning on seeing an art exhibition that a friend recommended.

Unfortunately, this morning we discovered Miss Mimi seems to have conjunctivitis, which set wifey off on an anxiety attack.

So we didn't end up seeing the art exhibition.

(Miss Mimi will need to visit the vet tomorrow.)

On the upside, I have started packing for my trip in two weeks.

A restful weekend seems to have helped with the flu I've been nursing for the past week.

Another tobacco shop arsoned. Is it terrible that seeing as I don’t smoke or vape or participate in illegal tobacco gang warfare, I don’t care one bit. If they wanna bomb each other out of existence, probably works out just fine for the rest of us.

Haven’t done a jigsaw in a while and thought I’d get myself one. To say the pictures available are underwhelming is an understatement. Choice of 25 versions of the colosseum or Eiffel Tower, and a bunch of Disney characters.

[–] Baku@aussie.zone 5 points 6 months ago (8 children)

I managed to walk into a door handle earlier and it really fucked up my arm. I don't know how hard I walked into it, but I'm surprised it didn't go through me. Instant bruising, and I can't lie on it. Neither panadol or Nurofen helped at all

[–] Taleya@aussie.zone 5 points 6 months ago (4 children)

If pain persists, see a doctor.

Seriously. I once hit my elbow so hard it blew out the nerve cluster there. My arm was paralysed for a week.

@Seagoon_ So recently, I've been thinking about possibly getting a buzzcut.

I don't think I'd be brave enough to go for a full buzzcut, plus I like having long hair.

But maybe a half-shaved head? Or an undercut?

Has anyone else here had one? If so, what was the reaction?

[–] dumblederp@aussie.zone 5 points 6 months ago (1 children)

The shaved bits get colder. Maybe spend winter considering your options with a plan to get a cut as it gets warmer. Ex's with shaved heads have mentioned that there can be a bit of a stigma with some people about a woman with a shaved head. Maybe it's just that fuckheads are drawn to bother anyone who stands out.
