A "Showerthought" is a simple term used to describe the thoughts that pop into your head while you're doing everyday things like taking a shower, driving, or just daydreaming. The best ones are thoughts that many people can relate to and they find something funny or interesting in regular stuff.

Rules

  1. All posts must be showerthoughts
  2. The entire showerthought must be in the title
  3. Avoid politics (NEW RULE as of 5 Nov 2024, trying it out)
  4. Posts must be original/unique
  5. Adhere to Lemmy's Code of Conduct

The legal framework known as "we all had to see it so you have to too"

[–] bmsok@lemmy.world 8 points 6 months ago

I'm terrified to see an AI rendering of what The David, 2 Girls, 1 Cup would look like.

[–] MehBlah@lemmy.world 28 points 6 months ago (1 children)

Hard to compare a gaping rectum with a artistic statue of a nude man.

[–] spongeborgcubepants@lemmy.world 5 points 6 months ago

Every work of art is the expression of its time I guess...

!unpopularopinion is that way (edit: I still don't know how to link communities, whee)

In the alternative, you really need to come up with some better things to think about in the shower

You just need to specify which instance it's on: !unpopularopinion@lemmy.world

Most apps or web ui should also have an autofill option.

Ah, thank you! Mbin has a variety of formatting options but nothing to help with community links, it seems.

Lemmy try... pun intended... !unpopularopinion@lemmy.world

Hurrah, I'll remember that. It'd be a lot more intuitive to pick up on if the commat and instance name weren't hidden from the formatted result.

[–] Bezier@suppo.fi 3 points 6 months ago (1 children)

Oh, I didn't even notice you're on fedia. Different software explains explains a lot.

Had no idea it hides the instance. This is how I see it:

[–] subignition@fedia.io 3 points 6 months ago

oh, yeah, if it displayed like that for me it would have saved a lot of confusion on my part. XD

I should probably dig around in the settings and see if maybe that's a default setting I can change.

thanks again!

Counterpoint: what if older societies already put in place censorship laws that were so successful, they effectively scrubbed any cultural memory of similar "works"?

Perhaps we should write our rules based on what we want in the future rather than what our ancestors did?

[–] TheGoldenGod@lemmy.world 15 points 6 months ago (1 children)

How has no one mentioned “tubgirl” lol.

[–] Dran_Arcana@lemmy.world 2 points 6 months ago (1 children)

I think most of us blocked it out

[–] TheGoldenGod@lemmy.world 7 points 6 months ago

For a damn good reason, along with the lemon party.

Like many parts of history we wish it hadn't happened, but here we are. Those who forget their history are doomed to repeat it.

[–] spittingimage@lemmy.world 8 points 6 months ago

Please, no. 😱

[–] Mbourgon@lemmy.world 7 points 6 months ago

…Much though we wish it weren’t.

[–] robolemmy@lemmy.world 7 points 6 months ago

When I’m playing civilization vi and I found a religion, I always call it “goatseism” in his honor.

[–] HenriVolney@sh.itjust.works 7 points 6 months ago (2 children)

What you call "normal rules of censorship" only applies to countries under Islamic laws and the USA...

[–] HiddenLychee@lemmy.world 9 points 6 months ago (1 children)

So like, your school teachers showed you gaping rectum porn?

[–] HenriVolney@sh.itjust.works -1 points 6 months ago (2 children)

In my country, Greek civilization is studied in 6th grade and yes among other things you study classical Greek sculptures of naked dudes.

[–] HiddenLychee@lemmy.world 6 points 6 months ago

And anal prolapse porn shows up in what year? Seven?

[–] Aremel@lemmy.world 2 points 6 months ago (1 children)

Naked dudes is one thing. The guy you replied to is talking about a gaping prolapsed anus.

I guess we didn't read the same OP then

Edit: sorry guys, I guess I'm not up to date with latest Internet trends

[–] Jimmyeatsausage@lemmy.world 4 points 6 months ago (1 children)

It was like 2003...so probably not "latest", but definitely a niche thing that you had to be part of a specific subculture to be exposed to.

[–] HenriVolney@sh.itjust.works 1 points 6 months ago

Yeah, so more like earliest trends on Internet...

[–] possiblylinux127@lemmy.zip -2 points 6 months ago

The USA isn't Islamic

[–] Tiptopit@feddit.de 4 points 6 months ago

If you need something nice to look at after your web search, go to lemonparty.org /s

[–] Kolanaki@yiffit.net 4 points 6 months ago

Huh... Who would have thought a man spreading his asshole open large enough to drive a bus into it would be culturally relevant? I mean, besides @BreakDecks, that is.

[–] herrcaptain@lemmy.ca 4 points 6 months ago

Hell, we could straight-up consider it a medical anatomy exhibit.

[–] Z3k3@lemmy.world 3 points 6 months ago

Oh god why did you dig up these repressed memories.

Your going to making me politically motivated enough to join the lemon party

[–] Fenrisulfir@lemmy.ca 3 points 6 months ago

You mean like how David had his dick smashed off?

[–] jmsy@lemmy.world 1 points 6 months ago (2 children)
[–] ChihuahuaOfDoom@lemmy.world 10 points 6 months ago (1 children)

Google images, safe search off, you're welcome.

Is goatse.cx still up? I would check but growing up with the internet as it was, I've seen enough Goatse in my lifetime that I really don't need to see it again.

[–] Fal@yiffit.net 4 points 6 months ago (1 children)

I checked. You people are week. But anyway apparently it's a crypto thing now. What a time to be alive

[–] ZombiFrancis@sh.itjust.works 1 points 6 months ago

Even at that level of pixelation: clear as day.

[–] keesrif@lemmy.world 2 points 6 months ago (1 children)

According to Wikipedia it's not, so you're safe
