Community rules (click to expand)

1. Follow the site-wide rules

2. Be civil
  • Understand the difference between a joke and an insult.
  • Do not harrass or attack members of the community for any reason.
  • Leave remarks of "peasantry" to the PCMR community. If you dislike an OS/service/application, attack the thing you dislike, not the individuals who use it. Some people may not have a choice.
  • Bigotry will not be tolerated.
  • These rules are somewhat loosened when the subject is a public figure. Still, do not attack their person or incite harrassment.
  • 3. Post Linux-related content
  • Including Unix and BSD.
  • Non-Linux content is acceptable as long as it makes a reference to Linux. For example, the poorly made mockery of sudo in Windows.
  • No porn. Even if you watch it on a Linux machine.
  • 4. No recent reposts
  • Everybody uses Arch btw, can't quit Vim, and wants to interject for a moment. You can stop now.

Well, it's Mental Outlaw. He's a contender for one of the most paranoid tech YouTubers out there.

    [–] unexposedhazard@discuss.tchncs.de 120 points 6 months ago

But its great that people like this exist imo. The average person might not need it but if someone does actually have a real reason for this level of security then its nice to have sources or at least entrypoints into the topic.

"Check out my gun! By the way I use Arch."

    [–] gentooer@programming.dev 29 points 6 months ago (9 children)

Wait, is that a real gun? That looked like a toy to my non-American eyes

    [–] Technoguyfication@sh.itjust.works 21 points 6 months ago* (last edited 6 months ago) (3 children)

That’s just a sand colored SIG, very real gun.

Edit: Accidentally thought it was a Glock at first, my bad.

    [–] potentiallynotfelix@iusearchlinux.fyi 15 points 6 months ago (2 children)

That is a SIG idk the exact model

If you were an American cop, you would've unloaded over a 100 rounds on this guy's back.

    [–] floridaman@lemmy.blahaj.zone 10 points 6 months ago (2 children)

unloaded over 100 rounds on this guy's back if he's not white

And that's why they ban guns.

This reminds me of that copy pasta about having an old printer and a gun in case it does something unexpected; can't remember the exact words though.

    sorry for low resolution image

I wish he didn't ramble as much as he does. Most of his videos could be a quarter of the length.

    [–] rtxn@lemmy.world 21 points 6 months ago* (last edited 6 months ago) (1 children)

He's kind of like that crazy prepper/survivalist uncle who lives in the ass end of nowhere, has a homemade fallout shelter stocked to the ceiling with canned chicken and peach, sleeps with a combat knife under his pillow, and rants about the government and agencies whenever he gets the chance. The family still keeps him around because he sometimes does something useful.

Luke Smith, on the other hand, is already out in the desert building a shrine to Old Man Atom.

    [–] boredsquirrel 9 points 6 months ago

Luke Smith would be the second least paranoid Arch user

There is no software solution that protects from a crowbar, you have to go to the hardware side.

this is why I always laugh when people use biometrics. best case scenario, they use whatever it's locked behind with you under duress. Worst case? they take whatever.

Protecting your self is important not to mention shooting guns is fun.

    [–] boredsquirrel 43 points 6 months ago (5 children)

hey uh, open source guns when?

    [–] Quackdoc@lemmy.world 28 points 6 months ago (10 children)

we already have them. It's not hard to make a firearm, and the 3d printed weapons scene has taken off quite well. all of the good ones still need metal parts ofc, but they are pretty easy to get your hands on in many cases.
