1. Follow the site-wide rules

2. Be civil
  • Understand the difference between a joke and an insult.
  • Do not harrass or attack members of the community for any reason.
  • Leave remarks of "peasantry" to the PCMR community. If you dislike an OS/service/application, attack the thing you dislike, not the individuals who use it. Some people may not have a choice.
  • Bigotry will not be tolerated.
  • These rules are somewhat loosened when the subject is a public figure. Still, do not attack their person or incite harrassment.
  • 3. Post Linux-related content
  • Including Unix and BSD.
  • Non-Linux content is acceptable as long as it makes a reference to Linux. For example, the poorly made mockery of sudo in Windows.
  • No porn. Even if you watch it on a Linux machine.
  • 4. No recent reposts
  • Everybody uses Arch btw, can't quit Vim, and wants to interject for a moment. You can stop now.

  • Please report posts and comments that break these rules!

Tell me you're American without telling me you're American

Oh I remember that guy, I watched like 2 videos and then removed them from my watch history hoping that YouTube wouldn’t recommend him again lol

If you have a YouTube watch history you are doing it wrong from a privacy and freedom perspective.

Or don't use YouTube. There are plenty of third party clients

I exclusively use NewPipe on my phone, and it works well (although it seems comments broke recently, but I'm sure it'll be fixed in due course), but I try to use Piped on PC and I find that it is significantly slower, most videos I have to play at 720p or lower, and it usually takes 20+ seconds to initially load. Being in Australia probably doesn't help

Is there any other alternatives that I should consider?

I found FreeTube just recently and I really like it so far. It's a desktop app that uses electron and the Invidious API. It supports 1080p and is really snappy, at least for me. https://freetubeapp.io

If you want a native client for Piped on your phone, check out LibreTube

If you want something closer to NewPipe on your PC, check out Invidious, Tubo or FreeTube if you want a native client. There's also an Invidious client for Android called Clipious.

You can also try out Tubular on your phone, it's a fork of NewPipe with some nice extra features like SponsorBlock integration

On my phone I use Libretube and for desktop I use Invidious.

The thing with Libretube is you have to flip though instances to get it to work.

They can't rival the youtube app because if I want to have the same subscriptions on yt web I'm gonna need to subscribe on both apps. Revanced is perfectly fine for me
