Can't wait for the pro gun people to somehow turn this into a gun issue somehow.

"See! Here's one example of mass murder where it wasn't a gun, therefore guns are okay and I'm gonna get my 4yo niece a mini machine gun, in pink."

as an Australian, fuck I am so grateful crazy people can't get guns in this country. imagine what this guy could have done with an automatic weapon.

"If only someone had a gun then they could have shot him"

Forgetting that he would have then likely had a gun himself and we end up at the exact same situation in the US with Mass Shootings happening so regularly it doesn't even make national news.

Not too mention in Australia we have guns, we just regulate the guns better.

Kinda goes to prove the point that all these killings aren't a gun issue since mass killing is possible either way (its just easier with a gun). Taking guns away would be akin to placing society in a giant old school mental asylum where we are all in straight jackets. Sure we would all be killing each other a lot less when we are in straight jackets all day, but it doesn't stop the violent thoughts and ideation.

Mass killings are always going to happen. The difference is that it's a lot harder to kill a lot of people with a knife than it is with a automatic handgun or rifle. Effective range of a knife is maybe 1-2 metres. Effective range of a gun is hundreds of metres.

I mean, it's a gun issue, but definitely not a pro-gun one.

'Murica: lightly chuckles at the "low" body count

Alleged? You don't know if you got the right guy?

[–] Railison@aussie.zone 10 points 7 months ago (1 children)

Due to strong defamation laws the media won’t be specific until the police speak up, or might even wait for a conviction

[–] SkyezOpen@lemmy.world 3 points 7 months ago (1 children)

I don't think he'd sue them regardless...

[–] Aussiemandeus@aussie.zone 2 points 7 months ago

The family could if the public attack them

[–] quindraco@lemm.ee 3 points 7 months ago (1 children)

I don't think you know what "alleged" means.

[–] RIP_Cheems@lemmy.world -1 points 7 months ago (1 children)

I know what alleged means. And in this context, it means they either shot the guy who was stabbing people or shot someone else, meaning they don't know if it is or isn't the guy they were looking for.

[–] inclementimmigrant@lemmy.world 2 points 7 months ago

How horrible. Can't imagine what these families are going through.
