You would increase your chances to get helpful insight significantly if you'd clarify where "here" is. It's a big world with a ton of countries, and this is an international place.

Here obviously means where OP lives. :^)
License to be able to drive on lemmy, needs bribe for sure
Malaysia, based on his other posts
Been to Malaysia. They have driving tests? What are they testing, honking and trying to run people over?
Maybe that's the answer to OP's "is [bribes] actually a thing here"
In some cases it might even be a case of "You actually passed the test, but we want you to pay us more to actually pass."
disclaimer: I know nothing of Malaysia
Then it is very sadly actually the case their. My class college where wondering here in France why I had to pass it so seriously and everything and they told me they simply paid and laughed about it
Idk where you live but seriously just retake your driving test. If you failed it clearly means you have no business operating a motor vehicle and will probably kill someone or yourself or both.
Where's "here"?
In some countries they'll fail you if you don't bribe, even if your driving was perfect, in others they'll just overlook small errors that aren't too dangerous.
There are places where if you bribe they'll let you pass even if you can barely drive, in others they'll call the police on you if you bring it up.
Ask around locally, you should definitely not bribe if you'd be a danger to yourself and others.
They also posted the same question to askmalaysians, maybe theyβre from Malaysia?!
If they are Malaysian, this is definitely an option/might have been expected.
As a fellow road-user - please donβt.
So you've learned:
Don't leave your kids with your parents, is the real take-away here.
IMO if you think it's immoral, don't do it. You'd be totally in the right to not bribe them.
If you do wish to bribe.. then idk... but I feel like bribing could potentially cause some legal trouble.
You need to pass the safety test, not pay for it. It will only make you a better and more confident driver
Money wonβt be there in the moment when those developed instincts are required
Don't do that, study harder and try again.
No, don't even think about doing it. Your parents are morons and I suggest you do not take any parental advice from them. This is nothing but a completely brain dead idea that could get you in a lot of legal trouble.
well, not only a legal trouble... the parents are putting OPs and others lifes in danger.
Is it possible your parents were joking?
This would explain much about the quality of drivers I gotta deal with lol.
Not recommend in the US
Where are you located?
If in north America definitely do not bribe.
Depends on the country, I lived in places where bribing is the norm and you can even get a licence without ever attempting a test that way. But in other countries the sole mention of a bribe can get you arrested. So be careful. You'll have to be more specific about where you are trying to get a licence. And be smart about the unspoken cultural norms wherever that is.
You: "Maybe this crisp Washington will change your mind"
Them: "Are you trying to bribe me with a $1 bill?"
yes.. and there's more where this comes from π
Maybe I'm crazy, but isnt just learning how to drive an option? Especially automatic is really not that hard.
Or just suck less at driving and maybe you will pass next time.
It sounds like you might have misunderstood them. To me, it's sounds like they are telling you to just BIKE. I'd suggest a used bike from a reputable manufacturer, in my city that will set ya back about 200, less than you'd pay for JUST insurance. On a simple bike like this any problem you might experience will be easily diagnosable and self fixable or you can go to a shop and pay a little extra. If you live in an area where things are far apart you might want to look into an e bike, those range from about 1k or more. They can go from 20-30mph and should be treated more seriously as you ride as on a regular bike you will probably only achieve 10-15mph averages. That will have the negative tradeoff of being harder to work on, more expensive, and perhaps frowned upon by "sport" cyclists. Check out this resource for more safety information.
From your tone it doesn't sound like you're comfortable with the idea. Would it be so bad to try retaking it? Would your parents be angry or give you grief over it? I know there's different levels of acceptability of bribery in different parts of the world so I'm guessing your somewhere where it's not as strictly monitored as where I am.
But go with your instincts. At the end of the day it's you taking the risk of paying a bribe, not your parents, and it's your moral choice, not theirs. But at the same time I know how annoying parental pressure can be!
Don't forget, you, not OP, are also taking a risk. We're all on the road, it's fucking disgusting that people will do this instead of just study for a little bit.
Iβve never heard of bribes being used to bypass a driverβs test, at least where Iβve grown up (Washington, US). If you tried to open a conversation like βwhere do I go if I want to bribe you?β I imagine that people would just assume itβs a joke.
In the US, you'd be likely to get arrested and charged. If you can't pass a drivers test, there's no way you have the money to actually bribe someone at the DMV.
Nah man, just try again. If you fail on your third attempt, you can start thinking about bribes. Would be helpful to know which country you are in though. Here in Germany i'm pretty sure that bribing wouldn't work.
Keep taking the test. Or ask your parents to "talk"/bribe the instructor. Either you learn to drive, they will pass you out of perseverance(cause you don't want to bribe) or you learn how to start the "bribe" talk.
My old roommate, who is now a model, just had the instructor give her the answers to the test and she got her license right away. So maybe you could try that?
