It could've been so pretty if they'd made it more like the teardrop caravans from the 60s but no, it looks like a four year old drew it π
It's much cheaper to manufacture something from straight boards than trying to get an organic shape.
Unless you have a mould.

I mean, if you are a car manufacturer and have the hardware to mass manufacture bent sheets of metal, things are going to be cheaper. And is 5k after inflation?
I'm not saying the thing is reasonably priced, just that there's a lot of factors to consider
Molded fiberglass would be REALLY easy to have organic shapes. And way lighter. This is done 100% for aesthetics.
Look at all the cheap dune buggy kits from the 60s. All molded fiberglass.

He got stranded in New York City, several different parts broke in the same event, overnight shipping failed, he needed to stay in an RV Park⦠so many reasons why traditional bike touring or even e-bike touring would be cheaper, mechanically simpler and more flexible when it comes to where you can stay.
When I wan't to go home after a bike tour, I can take a train. Because I sleep in a tent.
Image what kind of high quality ultra light expedition tent you could buy for 7000 bucks.
Or how many nights you could splurge on a hotel and still spend less than $7,000.
You could probably get that tent and all other equipment you need for touring, including the e-bike, and still have enough money leftover to throw a huge celebration party with all your friends for your smart financial decisions.
Is it a wise choice? β Nope.
Do I like it more than I should? β Yes I do.
I wonder how many rail trails are passable with it? Some have narrow dividers to block larger vehicles.
In another video, it shows him entering what appears to be a standard width bike path with a bollards in the middle. But I could imagine a switchback ramp up a bike/ped bridge that this couldnβt navigate.
They're going to keep fucking around and just reinvent the car. "This great bike has four wheels, a spacious cabin with plenty of leg room, and it's a great way to travel when you finish biking."
I would like someone to re-imagine the pick-up truck. For example the KEI trucks have fold down sides and are tiny. Perfect size for almost any local job like bringing a bunch of paint buckets and plywood sheets from the big box store. A big TV fits. The Tesla idiot truck is a re-imagination of a truck into a shittier truck. But what if someone came out with a front to back flat bed where the passenger is behind the driver? It's more aerodynamic and you can carry long items like a big couch or a bunch of PVC tubes.

Huh, that's an interesting idea, if it's what I'm picturing. Been looking at those mini trucks vs. UTV for house work. I'd get the flatbed one just because of how cool it'd be.
Those are legal in Washington State but not in Oregon....but it's cheaper to ship to Oregon, then carry the thing on a trailer all the way back here. I've looked into this way too much. The craigslist prices are ridiculously high.
They are legal where I am, there's a dealer (importer) nearby. I'm leaning toward UTV for around the homes and a modest dump trailer for hauling. The idea of being in one of those mini trucks near the behemoth monster trucks driving around on these American roads scares the shit out of me and I don't think I would get used to it enough to feel good driving it and would probably never put a passenger in it with me.
There's at least one complete project where a Kei truck was turned electric. That was/is my plan. There's an opensource project using a Prius system to control a leaf motor with a diy battery. I'm sure more convenient systems are in the brew as well.
New goal. This with touring ebike could make for a great several-months-to-a-year vacation tour.
the article states it has 95 kW battery, the actual website states 9.2 kW battery, while no one realised that kW is not a unit of battery capacity.
