I used to check the front page at least once every day, and occassionally check specific subreddits. Now I don't look at reddit unless theres some drama, like mods getting purged, then I'd go there and enjoy the drama. Occasionally there will be questions that only reddit has the answer to so I have to reluctantly use it. I got my uBlock Origin ready to kill all the ads. That shitty website will not get a cent out of me.

What about you? Do you still use reddit?

I log in for one niche sub that has no activity in the Lemmy equivalent, and only once every few days.

[–] Maheswara@reddthat.com 2 points 1 year ago

Actually I left reddit long before migration.... Came to know about Lemmy only after the API controversy...

[–] Kichae@kbin.social 2 points 1 year ago

Eh, I still use it a little bit. I follow Blue Jays games via the team's subreddit, and the Pathfinder community hasn't really migrated over, so scan that every couple of days. And the memes have just clobbered my feed these last couple of days, even after blocking most of the meme groups.

But I'm using Reddit very differently now.

I do for niche communities, especially those for reading / books / literature. There’s fewer of those here on Lemmy, and the ones in languages other than English are nonexistent.

only when searching for minecraft modding stuff, although i don't have an account anymore

Only if it turns up in a search result for something. I refuse to install their crappy app on my phone and Lemmy scratches enough of the itch that I haven’t been tempted back

[–] a4ng3l@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

I slipped maybe twice by accident via google search results but that’s it. Until I need to get opinions to buy something it will be okay I guess.

[–] AnonymousLlama@kbin.social 2 points 1 year ago

Drastically reduced my usage and now spend that time on other side projects / reading. I miss the large volume of comment but don't miss being treated like an obstacle (like how reddit leadership sees their users)

[–] ShadowRam@kbin.social 2 points 1 year ago

Nope,

80% is bot reposts anyway.

yes. r/SFFPC has not made the jump to the fediverse :(

I lurk on my country's subreddit once a day through libreddit or on browser with ads blocked. I used to do that for a couple other small subs but I don't bother doing it as much anymore, I just check what's posted there like 1-2 times a week at this point

[–] akatsukilevi@kbin.social 2 points 1 year ago

I nuked all the content of my Reddit account, then forced it to be banned from Reddit. After that, blacklisted the domain from my computer so that it just returns a (ERR_NX_DOMAIN) and migrated to KBin instead
Been happy since

[–] Version@feddit.de 2 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

I usually check the subreddit redditmobile to see if they actually fixed the app.

[–] JaymesRS@midwest.social 2 points 1 year ago

I have an RSS subscription to r/ebookdeals and an account that was previously to keep nsfw browsing separate from main browsing and access that now is subscribed to r/modcoord and r/3rdpartyapps to watch the drama that I occasionally check in on once a week or so, but otherwise Lemmy is my regular browsing home.

[–] rynzcycle@kbin.social 2 points 1 year ago

I've clicked a few links about walkthrough questions for niche games, but deleted the app (yes, I used the official app) on the 12th and haven't logged in since. Kbin/Lemmy is great for content and I'm loving the interaction on Mastadon.

[–] sam@lemmy.ca 2 points 1 year ago

Two subreddits that I check on occasion for information/memes, both of which I'm hoping will eventually gain traction here. I don't have an account though.

[–] Chariotwheel@kbin.social 2 points 1 year ago

I look into niche communities that I can't find in a suitable way on the fediverse, but I don't engage anymore. No comments, no posting, no up- or downvotes, no gilding (lol). I am sitting on 17100 of these coins and I will watch them melt away when Reddit removes rewards.

[–] e033x@lemm.ee 2 points 1 year ago

I do on my desktop, but my mobile browsing (which is the vast majority) is all lemmy.

[–] lvxferre@lemmy.ml 2 points 1 year ago

I don't use it any more. At most when people refer to something Reddit here, specially in c/snoocalypse, I check it then archive it then link the archive.

That said I don't blame people who still use it, even if I encourage people to not to.

[–] zzmthesurand@kbin.social 2 points 1 year ago

I literally only use it to check if there's a new Chainsaw Man chapter out so I open r/ChainsawMan once every two weeks, that's about it

[–] xXGanondorfXx@kbin.social 2 points 1 year ago

I keep the app on my phone. I use it as a porn site at this point.

[–] 30isthenew29@lemm.ee 2 points 1 year ago

I don’t but if I have a question I’ll google and add site:reddit.com for sure…

[–] astrodad@kbin.social 2 points 1 year ago

No. I bounce between here and my main Lemmy instance. I prefer KBin in general, but there are already usable apps for Lemmy.

[–] dfyx@lemmy.helios42.de 2 points 1 year ago

I occasionally check https://reddit.com/r/artifexian which is the official community for a youtube channel and podcast that I like.

Other than that, I'm out.

I still do, but not in the same capacity.

With the death of BaconReader I don't scroll as much, and just from looking at my front page, I imagine it's not only the summer doldrums that have thinned it out so much. It's just... harder to find good discussion there, and what I do find is often charged in some way, or very thin. So, I stick around for some of the communities that I'm more active in, but I'm also doing things on Lemmy, and a few other places. Honestly, idk that I'll ever full drop Reddit in the same way that I did, say, MySpace, mostly in that there's probably going to be some value somewhere on the site. But, it's certainly not my main source of idle scrolling or engagement anymore.

Also, yes, I know I can still make BR work, but at this point I'll just keep using Reddit in browser with uBlock Origin.

Only here and there for one specific sub

I take the occasional peek to see if it imploded yet. I do miss certain communities. Only last week I was looking for some info on a historical subject. Google turned up nothing so I wanted to r/askHistorians. I hate they decided to stay on reddit and don't switch to lemmy.

[–] crusa187@lemmy.ml 2 points 1 year ago

Swapped in Memmy at the Apollo spot on my phone’s home screen, and not looking back! It’s been great so far.

Unfortunately there are a couple of very specific subs which have no equivalent on Lemmy and I have gone back for them once or twice. I’m considering leaving those communities behind. Although it sucks to have to do so, ultimately it feels like the right thing to do.

theres a couple communities stuck on there I still check on, but no longer casually browse.

[–] Sabata11792@kbin.social 2 points 1 year ago

It still comes up on google when you need to figure out an obscure issue and is usually the best answer, although I'm trying to limit it. Other than that, I deleted my account and am long gone.

[–] ftothe3@lemm.ee 2 points 1 year ago

Lemmy exclusively on my phone (Memmy app) and reddit occasionally when on my PC.

[–] Turbofish@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

I still use it for a couple of hobby related things although I could probably use discord for some of it.

Whilst I am using lemmy it's not quite hitting the spot so I use it less. I'm getting an awful lot more reading done.

[–] sapetoku@kbin.social 2 points 1 year ago

I don't really go to reddit since the apps got killed and I refuse to use the pile of garbage the official app is. Aside from a few niche subs there really isn't much to see there anymore, especially in summer. It's all edgy kids and bots now for the most part.Whatever sense of community there once was is long gone.

[–] JohnEdwa@kbin.social 2 points 1 year ago

I purged my feed from over 150 subs I would spend the first and last few hours each day browsing and commenting from my bed to less than 20 I lurk every few days from my pc, almost all of which are gaming communities with no fediverse replacements.

[–] hitagi@ani.social 2 points 1 year ago

Yup for those little weird subs I'm still on.

[–] eek2121@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

I visit the Ukraine livethread on worldnews once a day and that is it. I use Lemmy or Mastodon mostly.

I am not logged into my reddit account, and ads are blocked. I use a VPN. I cancelled my reddit premium subscription when the API changes were announced.

[–] ryathal@sh.itjust.works 2 points 1 year ago

I've gone back and lurked a single sub a fee times that doesn't have an active user base here. Even the sub is slower now, than before the protests and app removals. The mobile site is cancer compared to RIF, which really helps to not go there.

No. Have not logged for weeks and can't think of any good reason to go back.

[–] TheGiantKorean@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

If I have to Google something, and the answer is on Reddit, then yes.

[–] NightOwl@lemmy.one 2 points 1 year ago

Only rss of gamedeals and buildapcsales. Those are functionally useful subs. Good deal alerts.

Have no interest in anything else like random discussions in hobbies or games or television or shows or sports which are stuff that are easy to quit. Even /r/Heat family I have left behind despite basically no activity here. Those are more entertainment and don't offer utility. That includes niche subs I enjoyed like gunpla or dedicated tv show or game subs. It just falls into category of entertainment that isn't so useful I need it.

I knew it essentially coming to a close when I didn't have Reddit Enhancement Suite installed anymore.

[–] XiELEd@lemmy.fmhy.ml 2 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

Sometimes I use Reddit to search up nonfiction book recommendations on r/books with searx.be (it automatically fetches you results on the old reddit website) because to be honest, it's pretty much one of the few places where I can find nonfiction recommendation for niche topics or just nonfiction readers in general (that isn't just about self-help books). Not only that, the users generally give a synopsis so it's easier to find what book you'd be interested in. But since Reddit made porn less accessible, my reddit usage dropped significantly.

[–] 07Chess@sh.itjust.works 2 points 1 year ago

I’ve done some Google searches and looked at Reddit results, and I view some choice subreddits on an RSS feed. But I have not logged in to Reddit since Apollo went down. Lemmy still seems to be getting better every day. While the content drought is still there I have taken to reading a book at night before bed instead. I’m hoping that just becomes a long lasting habit in lieu of scrolling.

[–] B3_CHAD@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 1 year ago

Yes as there are certain subs that aren't on lemmy. But I have been visiting it a lot less since lemmy.
