Can we try to not fragment an already-small community?
Matrix works and is secure for 99.998% of the people. Is it really worth it to break into factions just because some people are worried about... checks notes ... IP addresses?
A community to talk about the Fediverse and all it's related services using ActivityPub (Mastodon, Lemmy, KBin, etc).

I prefer matrix, thanks.
Yeah of course its all about options
I don't use telegram but what are the advantages of using telegram vs chatting in a community on lemmy?
Lemmy is a forum so it can't give you the chatroom experience amd it is just better when discusiing things fast.
If we don’t care about security and privacy, why not just use Discord? It’s basically the same thing.
I'd say matrix which is not selfhosted and telegram comes under the same security level with matrix even going below telegram but if you are self hosting then yes it is secure
I don’t think so. Telegram channels are not end to end encrypted. Telegram doesn’t support this very basic feature. Matrix rooms can support end to end encryption.
But there are risc factors of admins niking everything they can get their hands on
They cant do that if it’s end to end. That’s the point. Your messages is encrypted before they reach the server. On the other hand Telegram has access to all your group messages and their admins and business partners can read everything. The reason end to end encryption is important is that you don’t have to trust the server. But with Telegram it’s “totally secure, trust us, bro”.
Nah i was talking about logs and ip (if not using vpn ) etc. and most matrix groups seems to be not e2e
You are right, Matrix saving a lot of metadata. A better choice would probably be Simplex Chat. It seems to be build with privacy in mind. https://simplex.chat/
Yeah and briar but sadly the use case for these apps aren't the same with apps like discord, telegram and matrix . Simplex and briar is not for hosting group or chatting with friends they are for when you can accept incoveniance but need a state of the art secure messaging software.
There are already some big groups on Simplex. I haven’t used it much, so I don’t know how well it works. But it seems easy enough to use.
Huh have to check it out sometime
If you want to create a self-hosted chat community, XMPP would probably be the best bet, as it supports solid encryption. My instance owner has one set up for the community, and it's worked pretty great to coordinate with other mods.
I don't understand what you're asking.
You want to setup Lemmy on Telegram? But instead of forum messages that I can read and respond to when I have time, you want it to be instant chat type messages?
I'm confused. If they're are already channels on Telegram for things that Lemmy covers (you mention FOSS channels), then what are you proposing to cover? Why can't we just use Telegram for those things we want to chat about? What are you doing differently?
Lemmy / Reddit / forums are a a different experience to instant chat. If I want instant chat I can find it. Again, confused by what you are proposing.
No lemmy support not lemmy i was thinking about setting up a support channel
That makes a little more sense. Support would lend itself to chat speeds better I think. If you need help with an issue its usually urgent.
It's not something I would use but I can see the benefit.
Yeah exactly
Will it allow singing telegrams and kissograms?
What ? Are those clients if so yes all clients can interact with each other
