Elon Musk on Wednesday announced the formation of a new company focused on artificial intelligence, after months of teasing plans to build a rival to ChatGPT.

The company, called x.AI, unveiled a website and a team of a dozen staffers. The new company will be led by Musk, according to the website, and “will work closely with X (Twitter), Tesla, and other companies to make progress towards our mission.”

You’re thinking of the tunnel-digging company that bilks investors. This is the one that uses AI to bilk investors.

Perhaps he wants in-house chatbots to keep Twitter afloat.

Man's surprisingly obsessed with calling stuff "X"

Lots of us were. In the elementary school.

In an interview with then-Fox News host Tucker Carlson in April, Musk said teased plans for his new AI venture. “We’re going to start something which I call TruthGPT,” he said, describing it as a “maximum truth-seeking AI” that “cares about understanding the universe.”

Sigh. When did this guy turn into a clown?

How many companies can one person effectively run at a time? Doesn't Musk also have smaller companies like Boring and Solar City to manage, on top of giants like Tesla and SpaceX?

The only way he runs anything is into the ground. The companies run better the less he is involved.

I'm not a fan of musk but I have to say he gets a lot of things done. He promises really big stuff and does not deliver half of those but it's still something.

When he decides to build a tesla factory it gets done in reasonable time. We need people like him in charge of public infrastructure projects, especially in Germany.

The rest of him is shit though

He was born rich and mostly tanks whatever he runs. All of his infrastructure idea like the tesla tunnels / ineffective smoke inhalation death traps are just worse and less effective versions of existing technology.

His electric trucks are a bad idea, the tunnels are a bad idea, his electric dock is equally bad, etc.

His incentives are to rip you off. Not transport of.

While we're at it, teslas are of course terrible cars.

Given the fuss he made about OpenAI being closed source (a case of broken clocks), it will be interesting to see if this is open source (doubt)

[–] Chocrates@lemmy.world 4 points 1 year ago

If he was funding it and putting someone that knows what they are doing in charge, that would be one thing.
This is gonna go so bad.

That name is so bad...

I think even Meta's name Threads is better.
