I have learned more in the few weeks about self hosting, rust, flutter and other things in lemmy, mastodon and fediverse than in the last few years in Reddit and other social media. Maybe learned more in hacker news. It’s awesome here and love the people here who are wonderful and knowledgeable and teach me patiently without any prejudice. Thanks everyone who make this awesome place.

You are part of those who make this place awesome ☺️

You have broken out of the algorithmic chains that has tied up your attention and time to literal prolefeed. And it starts when you chose to abandon Reddit and go out of your way to join a Lemmy instance (often cited as the biggest barrier of entry: to choose an instance) so congrats! 😀

Biggest barrier to entry? Lmao that's a very low barrier, even my dumbass understood it.

Hey, I didn't even know there were more instances when I joined. I just went where RIF sent me, lol.

Yep, it was easy to signup but I'm on kbin.social. might have to donate some money to that guy for the free content

Thanks for being here dumbass. But seriously, don’t call yourself that. 😃

It's very low but a lot of people trip over the lowest of thresholds 😅

It's easy to register on an instance, the hard part is choosing one. "Which one is the right one to choose and commit to?" is a newbie question that honestly is often overthought. Choice paralysis is real for some people...

For me, there's only one good choice, sail free in the High Seas!

I joined lemmy.world, because that’s the first one I came across. But now I can see the posts from many instances using voyager and Memmy. Now you can go and join any instance with interest you. That’s the beauty of it.

That should tell you something about how little effort people have put into understanding the Fediverse.

Same here! I'm posting this from my own instance which is not something I would have been remotely comfortable setting up before lemmy :)

Yeah it's been fun! I've set up self-hosting of several fediverse projects and have learned a lot.

Me too, after mindlessly scrolling for months on end I got busy and started setting up my own instance. Learning new stuff, migrating my existing pages to a newly rented VPS (after mastering that I can think about doing that shit at home, but at the moment it was rather to much new stuff to learn after having a page on a shared webhosting). The depression algorithm has lost its hold. Lemmy is cool, but also nice and slow so after a while I have seen everything new I find interesting, time enough to venture out and do stuff myself. So in the last days, besides learning about Yunohost, I also took pics of my garden, went to pet my animals, played music with my kid ... let's hope more people discover the beauty of an algorithm free life soon. That shit is so toxic.
