What's next; banning certain letters from the alphabet, because they can be used for banned texts?

[–] FuglyDuck@lemmy.world 67 points 10 months ago (1 children)

I vote we just ban DeSantis because he’s a dick. Clearly adult content…

[–] Brickhead92@lemmy.world 3 points 10 months ago

He doesn't seem like much of an adult to me

[–] darklamer@lemmy.dbzer0.com 29 points 10 months ago (2 children)

Erdoğan unbanned the letters Q, W and X, which can be used for Kurdish texts, in his 2013 reforms, so I think it'd be a bit too soon to re-ban them now already, so that's probably not next.

[–] Dagwood222@lemm.ee 22 points 10 months ago (1 children)

I had to look this up, but it is a fact that certain letters were banned. I should not be so amazed. Back in the 1960's the Greek junta banned the letter Z, because it meant 'he is alive.'

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Greek_junta

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Z_(1969_film) the movie is a fictional, but based on the actual events.

[–] darklamer@lemmy.dbzer0.com 5 points 10 months ago

I should not be so amazed.

The one thing that amazed me was that it was Erdoğan of all people who eventually found it politically expedient to lift the ban.

No E because of Estrogen

No T because of Testosterone

No X or Y because of chromosomes

May as well also get rid of G for gender, H for healthcare, I for intersectionality, L for liberal, M for marijuana, N for nonbinary, O for orange, P for progressive, R for radical, S for socialism, U for union, and V for vaccine.

Aaaaa

[–] TheGalacticVoid@lemm.ee 2 points 10 months ago

ou r mking his difficul

[–] Carighan@lemmy.world 57 points 10 months ago (1 children)

I can readily understand that someone like Ron would have no idea why anybody would ever use a dictionary. 😅

[–] EmergMemeHologram@startrek.website 24 points 10 months ago (1 children)

The most confusing thing about dictionaries is why are they so torn on the topic of bridges?

My mom always has an “unabridged” version but mine is a regular dictionary complete with the word “bridge”.

[–] meyotch 3 points 10 months ago

That joke is a bridge too far! 🙄

[–] MushuChupacabra@lemmy.world 43 points 10 months ago (5 children)

There's a lot of smut in the Bible.

[–] Speculater@lemmy.world 23 points 10 months ago (1 children)

You mean the incest, beastiality, rape, and obsession with virginity would be considered ban worthy?!

[–] this_1_is_mine@lemmy.world 8 points 10 months ago (1 children)

Matricide patricide infanticide ..... Its got all the sides.

[–] Perhyte@lemmy.world 4 points 10 months ago

Not to mention all the genocide.

[–] HikingVet@lemmy.ca 9 points 10 months ago

Other places have gone after the bible where laws like this are in place.

[–] Goferking0@ttrpg.network 7 points 10 months ago (1 children)

Which is why they added exceptions for it after people got it removed.

[–] HikingVet@lemmy.ca 6 points 10 months ago

Maybe they go after all Christian books ,you know the ones praising the glory of Yahweh, which is just a semitic war god (if you pay attention to history).

Once when I was a kid, our pastor gave a sermon. Something about lions.

But he mixed up how to spell lions. He was old. So all the Bible verses he used were actually about loins.

That was a funny lesson and complete waste of time.

But there are a lot of loins in the King James Version

[–] cows_are_underrated@feddit.de 2 points 10 months ago

I remember that someone actually challenged the bible because of that.

[–] Gingerlegs@lemmy.world 36 points 10 months ago (2 children)

Why does he always look like he just got done crying?

[–] Subverb@lemmy.world 7 points 10 months ago

Have you seen his poll numbers?

[–] ShepherdPie@midwest.social 5 points 10 months ago

He also looks like both Joe Dirt's and Ricky's (Trailer Park Boys) dad. How fitting for a Floridaman.

[–] lntl@lemmy.ml 18 points 10 months ago (1 children)

How does Desantis cope with the internet? Is it banned in Florida too?

[–] sebinspace@lemmy.world 7 points 10 months ago

Still here. For now.

[–] moistclump@lemmy.world 4 points 10 months ago (1 children)

I thought this was an onion article? Can someone confirm if this is satire? It doesn’t seem like a satire site but I still thought I would check. Because if not… I don’t even know what to say. I don’t even know.

[–] intensely_human@lemm.ee 2 points 10 months ago

I mean it’s kinda satire in a way. Only one school district is interpreting the law this copiously. The others don’t seem to have trouble understanding the spirit of the law.

[–] exocrinous@lemm.ee 1 points 10 months ago

Ban the Bible then.
