No, the innocent civilians being used by Hamas as human shields are not the oppressors. I've never heard anyone who thinks that.

Everyone just wants to get rid of the terrorists and free the hostages.

[–] alvvayson@lemmy.world 21 points 11 months ago

Everyone except Israel, which would rather kill hostages and civilians instead of negotiate.

They haven't freed a single hostage by force.

[–] SuperIce@lemmy.world 15 points 11 months ago (1 children)

The IDF sure love killing civilians though...

Down votes do even less on lemmy than on reddit, and down voting someone never made their point go away.

There is simply no way to think the IDF cares about Palestinian civilians when they've been shown time and time again killing innocent men women a d literal children, just because they were "cockroaches" or "rats" or whatever (historically ironic) term they tell themselves to make it easier.

I don't know man, you don't talk to conservatives much, they seem to lump everyone in Palestine into one group.

I have face to face conversations with these people regularly, the "eat, sleep, and breathe Fox News" kind of people.

[–] TheRealLinga@sh.itjust.works 1 points 11 months ago

I'm sorry for you my friend

[–] TokenBoomer@lemmy.world 1 points 11 months ago

Is that why the IDF killed the hostages, to free them?

[–] masquenox@lemmy.world 0 points 11 months ago

Do tell... who are the "terrosists" and who are the "human shields" in the top picture, apologist?

[–] PP_BOY_@lemmy.world 12 points 11 months ago* (last edited 11 months ago) (4 children)

Malcom X... he's the one who said Neo-Nazis are actually Jews and went around talking about how his movement was being sabotaged by a Jewish conspiracy, right?

Edit: oh yeah, and whose meetings were attended by George Lincoln Rockwell and members of the American Nazi Party . Or is that a different Malcolm X your altright dogwhistle trash meme seems to be quoting?

[–] halfwaythere@lemmy.world 11 points 11 months ago (1 children)

It's almost as if people should read up on the people they quote to understand the underlying purpose of the quotes they are quoting before quoting them.

[–] TokenBoomer@lemmy.world 0 points 11 months ago* (last edited 11 months ago)

This quote is from his interview with Alex Haley before his assassination and the writing of his autobiography. Note, this was after his trip to Mecca and his conversion to Sunni Islam, where he renounced antisemitism and declared that we are “all God’s children.” He had left the Nation of Islam before this, where they met with the Nazis because they had common goals. He later admonished this meeting with Rockwell. The previous commenter doesn’t think you have the ability to think for yourself. You do.

I recommend everyone read the Autobiography of Malcolm X. He was a complex individual, as we all are. He made mistakes and became a better person despite them. He wasn’t perfect. None of us are. But his contribution to race advancement during the Civil Rights Movement was not insignificant.

Wow, this is the first time I've heard people shit talking Malcolm X. Would you consider yourself a white moderate? Just trying to understand where you're coming from

[–] TokenBoomer@lemmy.world 0 points 11 months ago (2 children)

Is the quote untrue? Are Palestinians not oppressed?

[–] SapphironZA@lemmings.world 4 points 11 months ago (2 children)

I think the problem people have with the quote is that it ignores that religion is the main oppressor. Without the Islamists and the right wing Jews, Palistinians would have a chance at freedom.

[–] TokenBoomer@lemmy.world 1 points 11 months ago* (last edited 11 months ago)

Which religion advocates for murdering your neighbor? Religion is a tool used to oppress. The oppressors are people acting in their own self interests, contradicting their professed religions. Ilan Pappe disagrees about this conflicts religious origins.

[–] masquenox@lemmy.world 0 points 11 months ago

that religion is the main oppressor.

Oh look... the edgelord atheist who is still sore because his parents forced him to go to Sunday School has decided to show up.

[–] hh93@lemm.ee -3 points 11 months ago (3 children)

Noone is hating the Palestinians though. Only Hamas (who definitely at least don't care about the Palestinians)

[–] some_guy@lemmy.sdf.org 1 points 11 months ago

Untrue. Lots of videos of zionists saying to kill Palestinian children. One said because they’ll grow up to be future terrorists.

[–] TokenBoomer@lemmy.world 0 points 11 months ago

So, they’re not oppressed? Maybe a definitive statement might help.

[–] masquenox@lemmy.world -1 points 11 months ago

Riiiight... Palestinians (somehow) forced the genocidal white supremacist settler-colonialist state of Israel to perpetrate genocide on Palestinians.

What else do you have, apologist? Auschwitz was just a holiday resort with really bad press, maybe?

[–] theodewere@kbin.social 6 points 11 months ago* (last edited 11 months ago) (1 children)

X stands for Xinjiang where there is nothing but oppression for years and years now.. remember Xinjiang..

[–] someguy3@lemmy.world 3 points 11 months ago (3 children)

Wait was the song referring to Malcolm X?

[–] Davel23@kbin.social 5 points 11 months ago

Assuming this is a serious question, no, the song is referring to its singer, DMX.

Need to know more Malcolm X

[–] masquenox@lemmy.world 1 points 11 months ago

If you like that, you're going to love his adage about foxes and wolves...

[–] TokenBoomer@lemmy.world 0 points 11 months ago

I recommend The Autobiography of Malcom X by Alex Haley. I read it in my 20’s and it changed how I look at the world.

[–] Icaria@lemmy.world 2 points 11 months ago

Would be less confusing if not everyone was claiming to be oppressed. One of raddle's site rules is "no oppression" and I still have no fucking clue what that means.
