Anarchism

Are you an Anarchist? The answer might surprise you!

Rules:

  1. Be respectful
  2. Don't be a nazi
  3. Argue about the point and not the person
  4. This is not the place to debate the merits of anarchism itself. While discussion is encouraged, getting in your “epic dunks on the anarkiddies” is not. As a result of the instance’s poor moderation policies and hostility toward anarchists by default, lemmygrad users are encouraged not to post here, though not explicitly disallowed if they aren’t just looking to start a fight.

MODERATORS

As a result of this community's existence on a site that is often hostile to its ideas, we'll be implementing a new rule:

Contained and respectful debate on the topic can certainly be useful, though. If anyone creates a community specifically for that kind of thing, I'd be glad to pop it in the sidebar.

I think there needs to be a /Leftist_Infighting community made where people can go and argue with each other, and then come back to their safe places to vent and be amongst people of the same mind? I feel like that would be useful.

*edit: I just created it: https://lemmy.ml/c/leftistinfighting

Based. Finally a place on lemmy to address anarchists rather than being lemmygrad 2.0

[–] GuyDudeman@lemmy.ml 4 points 1 year ago

I love this. Thank you! Also, I just created c/leftistinfighting for that sort of thing. We'll see how that goes. I'm trying to keep it light in there as well.

yo, fuck that shit.

banning should only be done for straight up trolling and/or spam. If you cant take an argument then what's the point of having discussion at all?

how long until I make a point that you disagree with and consider it a "dunk" on you?

Yeah totally you're right, spaces should never be able to define a range in which discussion occurs and we should just all bend over to whoever wants to pop in and derail. Great suggestion.

[–] krolden@lemmy.ml 2 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago) (1 children)

did i say bend over? use your words (and votes), not your modpower. this is one of the things that turned /r/anarchism to shit and you are perpetuating the same backwards discussion rules.

Arguing basic premises all day long keeps discussion from actually going anywhere. Actual discussion flourishes among a group who can agree on the basics and actually want to talk about something more substantive than "is authority bad or is it actually good??????"

This community has so far been garbage because it's just anarchists posting links then people (largely from lemmygrad) starting fights on them over and over and over. That doesn't get anyone anywhere.

[–] krolden@lemmy.ml 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

whatever dude. you're literally doing the same shit lemmygrad does by banning people you disagree with. not to mention DELETING their comments/posts which just makes you look more fragile. I can argue that doesn't get anyone anywhere either. If you really think your ideology is better then maybe you shouldn't parrot the actions of the ones you claim are hindering discussion.

Don't call me "dude," asshole.

But whatever, I'm ditching this instance anyway. This place feels more and more like reddit every day, where every single point must constantly be argued and there's very little left other than hostility. Most others seem to agree with your position, so go ahead and enjoy your reddit 2.0.

Where are you going? Beehaw?

[–] krolden@lemmy.ml 3 points 2 years ago

Don’t call me “dude,” asshole.

wait, what? why not?

you're the one turning this into reddit 2.0 by adopting the same backwards mod actions. I'm not trying to be hostile, just arguing my point. AFAICT there has been no bad faith discussion anywhere in this /c/ and banning those who are participating in discussion is just sad, whether is falls in line with your ideology or not.

This sub is one of the only few anar subs, and it's surrounded by hostile people who hate us. that's not a nice feeling to have on a leftist instance.
And there is a lot of room in rule n°4 to still disagree and have discussions, no straight banning if you don't just wanna start a fight.

[–] sexy_peach@feddit.de 9 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Who are you to make the rules?? A community can make their own rules, wtf...

[–] krolden@lemmy.ml 2 points 2 years ago (2 children)

I'm not trying to make the rules, I'm just trying to make my point.

Why not start a poll for new rule ideas instead of the 2-3 mods making all the decisions? Wouldn't that be more in line with the philosophy?

[–] w_ortiz@lemmy.ml 6 points 2 years ago

rule n° 4 is just basics of online moderation to have a safe space. And it was discussed here.

[–] sexy_peach@feddit.de 4 points 2 years ago (1 children)

what philosophy? Online forums?

[–] krolden@lemmy.ml 2 points 2 years ago (1 children)

No, anarchism. Thanks for being obtuse

[–] GuyDudeman@lemmy.ml 1 points 1 year ago

Hi. I'm new here. But if I may be so bold as to dip my toe in here for a second... Do we want to have this community ruled by majority or by consensus?

[–] Anarcho_Mandalorian@lemmy.ml 1 points 1 year ago

Depends on the community. Some communities are for debate, some aren't.
