Rules:

  1. Post only links to articles, Title must fairly describe link contents. If your title differs from the site’s, it should only be to add context or be more descriptive. Do not post entire articles in the body or in the comments.

Links must be to the original source, not an aggregator like Google Amp, MSN, or Yahoo.

Example:

  1. Articles must be relevant to politics. Links must be to quality and original content. Articles should be worth reading. Clickbait, stub articles, and rehosted or stolen content are not allowed. Check your source for Reliability and Bias here.
  2. Be civil, No violations of TOS. It’s OK to say the subject of an article is behaving like a (pejorative, pejorative). It’s NOT OK to say another USER is (pejorative). Strong language is fine, just not directed at other members. Engage in good-faith and with respect! This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. 3. No memes, trolling, or low-effort comments. Reposts, misinformation, off-topic, trolling, or offensive. Similarly, if you see posts along these lines, do not engage. 4. Vote based on comment quality, not agreement. This community aims to foster discussion; please reward people for putting effort into articulating their viewpoint, even if you disagree with it.

All posts and comments will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. This means that some content that violates the rules may be allowed, while other content that does not violate the rules may be removed. The moderators retain the right to remove any content and ban users.

That's all the rules!

“I came here to say it’s become clear to me that it’s not my time. So after much prayer and deliberation, I have decided to suspend my campaign for president effective today,” Pence said, to audible gasps from the audience gathered at the Venetian resort on the Las Vegas strip.

So he eventually realized that he wasn't winning a popularity contest with the people who were looking to hang him. It really shouldn't have taken this long.

[–] someguy3@lemmy.ca 63 points 1 year ago (2 children)

He overestimated how many old school Republicans there were. Nope, most of the party wanted Trumpism all along.

[–] cmbabul@lemmy.world 43 points 1 year ago

Additionally he underestimates how much the very few “old school Republicans” that do remain actually pay attention to politics or even current events at all. I’d suspect most of those voters are the type of folks that just show up and pull the R lever without ever thinking about it

[–] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 7 points 1 year ago

Yep. It turns out the True Conservatives (TM) and the freewheeling "independents" are things that barely even exist, no matter how much the likes of David Brooks wants to magic them into being a majority in this country by feverish writing another column.

[–] Techmaster@lemm.ee 8 points 1 year ago

Some people want to hang him, everybody else hates him too.

it's past 14 weeks he should be forced to carry it to term

[–] Patches@sh.itjust.works 13 points 1 year ago

If only I lived in Texas, I could make $10,00 right now.

The only acceptable time to snitch.

It's a shame. That recent picture of him speaking to half a dozen people in an Iowa drugstore was really inspirational.

[–] CyberDine@lemmy.world 16 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Very reminiscent of Jeb.

"Please clap."

Either we have 2 Mike Pence fans here, or there were 2 who didn't get the sarcasm.

[–] xc2215x@lemmy.world 7 points 1 year ago

That was hilarious.

[–] Rapidcreek@reddthat.com 81 points 1 year ago (4 children)

I thought he was gonna hang in there

[–] dhork@lemmy.world 23 points 1 year ago

I mean, that big crowd did want to see him suspended

[–] jeffw@lemmy.world 11 points 1 year ago

Took me a minute, ngl

[–] aseriesoftubes@lemmy.world 6 points 1 year ago

I see what you did there.

That's really the weirdest thing about these performative Jesus people. One, Jesus said to shut the fuck up about your supposed faith and not display it in public in an attempt to seem pious. But anyway, he can't work it out logically? He needs supernatural inspiration to make any decision?

[–] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 7 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Indeed, if they listened to their OWN religion, they'd literally get back in the closet, but they chose to follow the likes of James Robison:

I am sick and tired of hearing about all of the radicals and the perverts and the liberals and the leftists and the Communists coming out of the closets! It is time for God's people to come out of the closets, out on the porches, and change America! We must do it!

I'd rather they go back to the closet, if they ever were in the closet at all. As instructed by their OWN holy book they talk about so much. How many of them have read it?

But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly.

Modern christians are the hypocrites the New Testament warns us about. Actual Christians who adhered to the principles of Jesus would be wonderful people.

Why didn't he just pray on it sooner if it was the Lords plan?

[–] ivanafterall@kbin.social 18 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Jesus was still feeling out the poll numbers, etc...and hadn't decided until now.

[–] Telorand@reddthat.com 5 points 1 year ago

For an omniscient and unchanging god, he sure does seem to not know things and change his mind based on human actions.

Can't tell which is worse. Either:

  • God: "bro nobody wants you to be prez just stop"
  • Brain thinking to itself: "bro nobody wants you to be prez just stop"
[–] jordanlund@lemmy.world 35 points 1 year ago (1 children)

He suddenly realized he wasn't the next Trump, he was the next Jeb! (please clap).

[–] jeffw@lemmy.world 5 points 1 year ago (1 children)

A reference that never gets old

[–] very_well_lost@lemmy.world 6 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Just like Jeb's presidential campaign.

[–] jeffw@lemmy.world 5 points 1 year ago

Not sure who you’re referring to. Are you thinking of Jeb! perchance?

[–] xc2215x@lemmy.world 25 points 1 year ago (1 children)

He understood that MAGA hated him.

[–] Sterile_Technique@lemmy.world 43 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I had my suspicions when they called for his murder during the capitol insurrection.

[–] Dkarma@lemmy.world 4 points 1 year ago

Took Mikey over two years to realize.

I just want to know what will happen when Trump is convicted if it happens before the republican convention. Yes, he might be out on appeal, but if itbis a state charge and a handful of states say he cannot be on the general ballot, what is the gop leadership going to do? Go with the runner up?

[–] squiblet@kbin.social 17 points 1 year ago

Probably still support him, and try to win on elections in large states and if that doesn't work, they'll try to overthrow the government like last time.

[–] jordanlund@lemmy.world 6 points 1 year ago

It won't happen before the convention. Look at the dates. The Republican Convention is July 15th to 18th.

The trials will take way more than four months.

[–] eran_morad@lemmy.world 9 points 1 year ago (2 children)

None of these shitbirds stand a chance against daddy trump

[–] jeffw@lemmy.world 9 points 1 year ago

Probably just counting on him getting locked up tbh

“Mike Pence Hangs It Up” would also have been a good headline for this.

Pence was probably the last to figure out that this was inevitable.

[–] Nougat@kbin.social 6 points 1 year ago (2 children)
