Shouldn't it be transformative in some way? Like if someone edited it and then submitted it would feel more like a meme to me.

Nah, replication is enough, shows interest. This meme was stolen, thus it lives on as a vehicle. The intention here is to simply get people interested in the world around them. Not sure what the original goal was. This one just has a little more .jpg than the last. I've seen variants of this one, regardless. This is an old one.

Some of that is controversial as far as I know. And the pseudopupils are an optical Artifact since every single eye has its own opening.

Explains the whole Princess Leia thing.

Chinchillas have vertical slit pupils despite being small herbivorous rodents. There are definitely quite a few exceptions.
