Cats are brilliant. But I like dogs.

[–] KindnessInfinity@lemmy.ml 6 points 1 year ago (11 children)

Cats 😾 although I feel it is unethical to own pets, personally

Definitely a cat person

I've had numerous tabbies throughout my life and I took care of a Husky, Blue Staffy, and Cockerpoodle in the past (not at the same time), I loved them all, but ultimately cats are just more self sufficient than dogs, and significantly quieter than the small dogs I've had to take care of

[–] nightofgrim@lemmy.ml 3 points 1 year ago

I wish I had the same quiet experience. My cat is louder than any dog I’ve ever seen. He just walks around screaming. He has since he was a kitten. 16 years later and it’s just as loud just but a bit deeper lol.

[–] CptNoobCanoe@feddit.dk 5 points 1 year ago

I like both, but I wouldn't own a dog. It's just way to high maintenance and complicates going on vacation too much. Our cat has a feeder in the shed, and he can stay at home alone while we're on vacation with no problem.

[–] brandon@lemmy.ml 5 points 1 year ago

I feel like nature decided this for me when I turned out to be allergic to cats.

[–] nightofgrim@lemmy.ml 4 points 1 year ago

Dogs. 100% dogs.

I’ve grown up with both and have both now.

Dogs are easier to take care of. They are way more affectionate. They love car adventures, hiking and swimming. They are part of the pact.

The whole β€œcats are self sufficient” thing is πŸ™„. The cat box is gross, I rather use a little bag and pick up dog poop.

[–] Olkyle@lemmy.ml 4 points 1 year ago

Totally a dog person but now that people are starting train and socialise their cats, they have proved that cats can be much friendlier and more interactive if you respect them and create an engaging environment for them!

[–] nachtigall@feddit.de 4 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I am on team Total Animal Liberation (but also have a dog)

[–] Link@lemmy.ml 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Me too, although I think adoption can be okay

[–] nachtigall@feddit.de 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Yep, gotta clean up the mess we left as humanity. We can not abandon them while they need us. Yet breeders should be absolutely illegal.

[–] Link@lemmy.ml 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Yet breeders should be absolutely illegal.

I agree. Even individual pet owners (or guardians) breeding with their pet is problematic imo. Certainly when they choose the breeding partners.

But even if the dogs are free to choose themselves you could argue that you shouldn't let them breed because it would be better to adopt animals in need rather than create new animals.

[–] nachtigall@feddit.de 2 points 1 year ago

it would be better to adopt animals in need rather than create new animals.

⬆⬆⬆⬆⬆ 100% ⬆⬆⬆⬆⬆⬆

The other day I had a conversation with someone who also rejects breeding but said that (female) dogs should give birth at least once in their life (because they read, it would lower uterus cancer risk). Almost as if people (even after a pandemic) still did not understand exponential growth.

[–] fratermus@lemmy.ml 4 points 1 year ago

Dog person. I've met a few cats I liked, but in general if I wanted to live with a creature that consumed resources and ignored me I'd still be married. :-P

[–] saba@lemmy.ml 4 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I thought we were all lizard people here

[–] hamborgr@feddit.de 2 points 1 year ago

sssshhhh.....

don't let them know....

[–] Akasazh@lemmy.ml 4 points 1 year ago

Neither, really. I can see the appeal of both, but would not have one of either myself. I married a lady that came with a cat, though, so technically more of a cat person.

[–] 304@lemmy.ml 4 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Definitely cats! Especially the naked ones!

[–] bruhsoulz@lemmy.ml 3 points 1 year ago (1 children)

yoo like that sphynx thing? they look super weird id def consider having one if i were to get a cat xD

[–] 304@lemmy.ml 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Yeah! I have one! He's super chill and cozy. They're pretty expensive tho.

[–] bruhsoulz@lemmy.ml 3 points 1 year ago

:o... cool.

dogs>cats>none. somehow found out foxes are the cutest thing ever tho and i like them more than both

[–] GenericPerson@kbin.social 3 points 1 year ago

I personally love dogs, but I've never had a cat, and they seem pretty cool.

[–] asexualchangeling@lemmy.ml 3 points 1 year ago

Definitely cats, I've lived with a dog now (though not currently) and I can get along with them fine, but I understand cats in a way that I'll never understand dogs

[–] WhoRoger@lemmy.ml 3 points 1 year ago (4 children)

I can't take care of myself, how would I care of an animal?

But I have babysit... Sitted? Babysat? Babyshat? A kitten, and dang he grew on me. So I kinda want one, but... It's just not for me.

As for dogs, family had two dogs and while Iiked them, neither liked me back as much as everyone says dogs do. I've been lied to. And I'm not one for walking. So if anything, more of a cat person then.

I've always been a cat lover. Whether or not I'm a person is still up for debate.

[–] LlamaLover@feddit.de 3 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I like both. But if I had to pick, it’d be cats.

The reason is that many people around here don’t handle their dogs well. That results in noise (hysterical barks in some cases) and poo landmines you have to watch out for.

Well-trained dogs? Appreciate them. Dogs I personally know? Good boys! Random dogs from the neighborhood? No thanks.

Having owned both, cats and dogs are quite different, and great in their own right. Dogs as a trusty companion, cats as a peculiar room mate.

[–] Tretiak@lemmy.ml 3 points 1 year ago

Cats are the mascot of the Internet. I love dogs too, but they require a lot of maintenance and attention compared to cats. Cats are the most arrogant creatures on Earth, and maybe the only ones that 'truly' live out their philosophy of life; of, "I'm better than you, and I know it."

[–] comfy@lemmy.ml 2 points 1 year ago

I'm not a fan of pets, and beyond that especially non-native species, but if I were forced to choose, I'd be partial to cats. But maybe that's from a lack of experience with any dogs that aren't too loud and heavy to handle.

[–] hellfire103@sopuli.xyz 2 points 1 year ago

Depends on where I live. Suburbs? Cat. House near the woods? Dog. Mansion or castle? Cat. Town or village? Dog. City centre? Something exotic, like a snake or a lizard. Mountains? Bird of prey.

[–] narp@feddit.de 2 points 1 year ago

PorquΓ© no los dos? I like them both, especially when they get along in the same household!

[–] Cube6392@beehaw.org 2 points 1 year ago

Yes. And also horses.

[–] naoseiquemsou@lemmy.ml 2 points 1 year ago

My username says it all

[–] GoldenDoge@lemmy.ml 2 points 1 year ago

Why not both? ;)

[–] he11fighter@lemmy.one 2 points 1 year ago

I love both, even though I have cats.

[–] Percy@lemmy.one 2 points 1 year ago

Both. I have both

[–] WingedSeven@lemmy.ml 2 points 1 year ago

Both of them are great! Β‘Ambos es lindos!

[–] Moonguide@lemmy.ml 1 points 1 year ago

I've had both my entire life, but my heart is in cats. They all are just so different personality wise. My current cat, Holiday, is hood af. She'll bat you away if you try to give her scritches unless she asked for them specifically, and she just let me scratch her belly despite being rescued by me when she was about 2 weeks old, and being nurses back to health from the brink of death. I love that smarmy shithead and her cute beans.

[–] Helix@feddit.de 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Es heißt 'Katzen oder Hunde', ohne N.

And I like dogs more, because domesticated house cats are notorious bird killers, even for fun and not for food.

[–] EponymousBosh@lemmy.ml 2 points 1 year ago

Ah dammit, typo. Still at the "wie geht's?" level of Duolingo :P

Never had any pets growing up because of my family but considered myself a dog person for some reason.

Then hubby's family got a small dog AND a cat. I kinda liked both for some time but then I found out that I'm allergic to pets. There was a very bad case of bronchitis when I would sometimes be unable to breathe at all. Started to keep my distance from both, especially the cat, because I had less of a reaction this way.

Then I had to take care of both because of family problems (some people dying, some living away for a long time). During this time the cat started to socialize with me more, demanding pets 50 times a day and I just couldn't say no :3 I started to really love this little girl and I even have less allergy now.

Today I visited my best friend in her new place for the first time. She has a GIANT FREAKING DOG. He's a good boi but not very polite, and as he put his paws on my shoulders and pushed me with all his 20+ kilos of weight and put his toothy face into mine the first thing that crossed my mind was "well, I didn't have to lie to myself that I'm not scared of big dogs, because I am :("

So, I guess I'm more of a cat person (easier to maintain, to get some personal space, blah blah blah) but I love our doggy anyway :D
