In a world without plants nearly all animals die. In a world without animals some plants don't reproduce.

Yup. Each is better at what it is good at. Neither is, strictly speaking, better than the other.

No. Plants are better than animals because they suffer less. Plants experience less physical pain. Plants have less thoughts and consciousness, both of which cause more suffering than simply physical pain.
Also, plants cause less harm to others.
