Bezos likely wants this and was likely part of the quid pro quo for optics. Nothing will come of trump lawsuit (because nothing ever does) but sends the temporary signal, for a brief press moment, that they are somehow adversaries. WaPo is another media outlet captured by another billionaire (same as twitter, facebook, fox, new york post, wall street journal, Sinclair owned local news stations, oann and all those recent pretend online "channels" that routinely host pillow salesmen as political experts) and needs that context considered when reading any of its content.

Bezos carries this shame for the rest of his hollow life. Anticipatory obedience, same as many gave to the nazis in lead up to the holocaust.

[–] jaggedrobotpubes@lemmy.world 12 points 1 day ago

Lol he's punishing the paper that bent to his will. Nazi shit.

This is why getting along and being civil don't apply to nazis. They play that card to get you to do what they want, then kill you for it, then demand everybody else be civil about them having done it. Rinse, repeat.

In populations where enough people's dicks don't work, this method is effective.

Washington Post: Refuses to endorse a candidate in order to appease Trump.

Also Washington Post: Gets sued anyway for not appeasing Trump enough.

How's that non-endorsement working out for you, Bezos?

Unless it’s a scheme to just pay him ‘settlement’ instead of donations

This is a preview for them of what's to come when all their billionaire strong arming gets him elected. They will grovel and meet the pavement anyway.

From the CNBC article that is the source for the linked post:

Trump’s suit was filed in U.S. District Court in Amarillo, Texas, effectively guaranteeing that it would be assigned to Judge Matthew Kacsmaryk, a Trump nominee with a conservative judicial record.

That gives Trump a much better chance of winning than you'd think from only reading the Political Wire post.

[–] Nightwingdragon@lemmy.world 52 points 2 days ago

There's zero chance this would win. It would effectively bring an end to a free and independent pre......oh........

But even if he does win, there's no way the Supreme Court would upho........oh.......

I guess we can throw "free press" on the growing pile of things in the Constitution that the courts write off as "unenforceable".

Remember when the Constitution was a sacred document of the rights of the People instead of just a list of ideas that can be ignored at will when they become inconvenient? Pepprige farm remembers.

This. Pretty much everyone with a legal degree thinks this case is junk and should be mocked (as per the CNBC article). Alas, it's filled in the one court that would say otherwise. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Forum_shopping at it's lowest...

Don’t worry, appeasement always works out against these guys.

[–] espentan@lemmy.world 33 points 2 days ago

Yeap, that always work a treat. Good thing we let that Hitler fellow annex Austria, otherwise there might've been trouble.

[–] expatriado@lemmy.world 29 points 2 days ago (1 children)

sueing for not buying ads on X, for not endorsing you... i see a pattern with these people

Elon Musk changes X terms to steer lawsuits to his favorite Texas court

[–] AA5B@lemmy.world 4 points 1 day ago

Don’t worry, I’m sure that judge will recognize the impropriety and recuse himself, right? …… right?

[–] Asafum@feddit.nl 20 points 2 days ago

Here we go again with this absolutely fucking insane hypocrisy.... JFC...

What the actual fuck? Fox news anyone??? Hello??? No? OANN? No? Newsmax?? No?? Their bread and butter is all pro Trump all negative on Democrats ffs... God I hate these people...

[–] eran_morad@lemmy.world 14 points 2 days ago (1 children)

fragile pussy bitch. i hope harris wins so that he suffers the narcissistic injury of having lost to a black woman.

[–] Nightwingdragon@lemmy.world 6 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Saying he lost to a black woman still gives off an incorrect implication that she's somehow beneath him.

He's a fragile pussy bitch and if he loses it's because he's a fragile pussy bitch and he'll know that everybody thinks of him as a fragile pussy bitch except for the people he pays to tell him he isn't a fragile pussy bitch.

And remember. We all know the truth about ourselves. That little voice deep, deep down inside that you can't ignore forever. And while he will never, ever, ever admit it publicly, I take solace knowing that he goes to bed every night with that voice telling him that he's a fragile pussy bitch who paid for a trophy wife and still can't get any. Because he's a fragile pussy bitch.

[–] eran_morad@lemmy.world 12 points 2 days ago

that inferiority only exists in the minds of people like trump. may they suffer the humiliation they bring on themselves.

[–] ohellidk@sh.itjust.works 14 points 2 days ago

of all the places he could try to sue, he picks THEM? like, dude...they pretty much catered to him by blocking the harris endorsement entirely. still not satisfied!

[–] snekerpimp@lemmy.world 9 points 2 days ago

“I’m an asshole, and I am going to sue you for reporting that I am an asshole”

“Illegal Corporate In-Kind Contributions”

wat

[–] ThirdWorldOrder@lemm.ee 6 points 2 days ago (1 children)

This article was bad. Better to use the article it was referencing here

[–] thefartographer@lemm.ee 9 points 2 days ago (2 children)

The Republican’s campaign on Thursday filed a Federal Election Commission complaint accusing The Washington Post of making “Illegal Corporate In-Kind Contributions” to Harris.

The campaign based its accusation on a Semafor report which said that the Post, as part of a ramped-up paid advertising campaign on social media, highlighted numerous articles critical of Trump versus more neutral coverage of the Democratic nominee.

The FEC complaint alleges that Semafor’s report indicates that the Post “is conducting a dark money corporate campaign in opposition to President Donald J. Trump.”

Adolf Hitler comes back from the dead, sues media outlets in zombie court for calling him "literally Hitler"

[–] ThirdWorldOrder@lemm.ee 8 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Gotta love all these boogeyman terms that maga falls for like “dark money” and “deep state”. Hell, even Antifa fits the bill in my mind.

[–] thefartographer@lemm.ee 5 points 2 days ago (1 children)

That sounds like some deep state antifa talk. You probably use dark money to build your space lasers! QUIT SENDING HURRICANES THAT WON'T HURT ANYONE TO KILL EVERYONE WHERE CLIMATE CHANGE ISN'T REAL!!!

If you listen to their emotion instead of their words, it starts to make a lot more sense. Kinda like watching your Sims have a conversation and then randomly kiss or slap each other.

[–] ThirdWorldOrder@lemm.ee 3 points 2 days ago

The maga crowd is very much an emotional support circle jerk.

[–] negativenull@lemmy.world 1 points 2 days ago

Harris Campaign sues Fox News in 3...2...1...

[–] acosmichippo@lemmy.world 6 points 2 days ago

I thought we already agreed that money is free speech. but by all means, lets get that overturned and abolish all PACs while we're at it.
