JD can fuck off with this states rights shit. We all know they’ll pass a national ban as soon as they get the chance.

Also, by letting each state decide we’ve created the same conditions that led to the Civil War. We even see an equivalent to hunting down escaped slaves where states are trying to prosecute women who get abortions out of state.

The right craves division and violence because they have no real policy.

Yes, divided. I have an idea, states should allow abortion and republicans or weird Christians who don’t like it can not get one.

They've been lying about this for pretty much all of modern history.

The Civil War wasn't because the North wanted to outlaw slavery in the south, it's because the south wanted the federal government to treat Black people in the North as escaped slaves and capture them to be sent to the south.

You can't negotiate with fascists for the same reason you couldnt just let Hitler have Poland, we can just let Israel have Gaza, or we can't just let have Putin have Ukraine.

It doesn't matter what they ask for now. If they ever get it then they immediately started the process again with something else. You have to draw a line somewhere to stop them

We kinda did just let Hitler have Poland though. It's called the phony war. The UK and France had both promised assistance to Poland and then just didn't help them.

Yeah...

That's why for 80 years it's been used as an example of why we can't appease facists...

I mean more so the entirety of WW2 but not really specifically Poland. Most people have completely forgotten about the phoney war.

Here's a wild one, why don't we ban abortion for people who don't want to have abortions, but allow it for people who do? Win win win.

Sounds like that would work for same sex marriage, personal pronoun use and transitioning between genders too.

We could call it the “mind your own fucking business” bill or something equally catchy…

Any level of tyranny is fine as long as states are doing it, not the federal government. This makes all the difference, for some reason.

"Some states believe if your skin is brown you're less of a person. What a beautiful melting pot America is!"

Conservatives really want shit to be like it was 100 years ago, fuck your progress!

This from a man who got pissy when his state legalized it

[–] lennybird@lemmy.world 12 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Isn't it kind of funny the party who routinely espouses individual freedumb is like, "let's let states decide!" without recognizing the irony that it's just one more granular step to saying, "let's let each individual woman decide!"

[–] Infynis@midwest.social 5 points 1 month ago

It's not irony, it's hypocrisy. They don't actually support freedom or human rights

[–] Imgonnatrythis@sh.itjust.works 11 points 1 month ago

They're making it easy for women without means to travel to other states to receive their care though right? Like taking full care of them including transportation, childcare etc right? They're not just assuming everyone in that state is there because they want to be and agree with these policies right? If so, still pretty fucked up, but at least being properly dogmatic about it.

"We should let individuals decide if they should have abortions. Oh sorry, I meant individual states."

[–] Visstix@lemmy.world 6 points 1 month ago (1 children)

I didn't know it was the Divided States of America

[–] moody@lemmings.world 2 points 1 month ago

Eminem called it the Divided States of Embarrassment.
