💥 Successful test of the world's first grenade launcher drone

The Bulava shock unit from the Separate Presidential Brigade named after B. Khmelnytskyi installed a grenade launcher on the Queen of Hornets FPV drone and conducted a successful test.

From now on, an ordinary grenade launcher can work at a distance of 5+ km. This opens up new opportunities for the military.

We can't tell you more details yet, except that we will continue to work in this direction in collaboration with Bulava with the goal of going into mass production to help our military.

Pretty slick.

That looks more like an AT4 or RPG style weapon than a grenade launcher to me.

Not a grenade. Why are these listed as such? It's an anti-armor weapon.

To be clear, I'm not saying it's technically incorrect, but it's an old description. We don't call calculators adding machines anymore either.

So you would prefer they use the term "rocket-propelled grenade (RPG) launcher", correct?

[–] LowtierComputer@lemmy.world 1 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Are you referring to an RPG-7?

RPG comes from Ручной Противотанковый Гранатомёт
Meaning handheld, antitank, grenade launcher.

An M203 or an mk19 is a grenade launcher. An AT-4 or RPG-7 is a rocket or missile launcher, firing a warhead.

Do you see what I mean?

A grenade is a fragmentation device. And yes these are technically grenade launchers, but they're specifically anti-armor, rocket or missile launchers.

A grenade is a fragmentation device

What about HE grenades, incendiary grenades, anti-armor grenades, etc?

[–] LowtierComputer@lemmy.world 1 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Exactly.

What is your point?

[–] LaFinlandia@sopuli.xyz 2 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (1 children)

Those aren't fragmentary. The point is a grenade can be many things, not just a hand-tossed fragmentary explosive.

Have you ever used a grenade launcher or an antitank weapon like an AT-4?
