This is so weird...

[–] treefrog@lemm.ee 84 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago) (2 children)

The context is Kamala isn't smart enough to run the country. He then pans to how beautiful she is by making comparisons with his wife (misogyny, she's beautiful but dumb). He then points out how of course they look different (race).

My interpretation is, in his own misogynistic racist way, he's trying to backpadel on the racism by calling her beautiful, but ends up coming off as misogynistic and still quite racist.

[–] vxx@lemmy.world 33 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago) (1 children)

You forgot that he called her an actress

[–] treefrog@lemm.ee 15 points 2 months ago

Yeah, there was a lot of subtle negging happening.

[–] billiam0202@lemmy.world 3 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Remember, Melania got into the US on an "Einstein" visa. Trump really might believe she's intelligent and would therefore be complimenting Harris by making that comparison.

[–] treefrog@lemm.ee 14 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago) (1 children)

I pulled context from the article. He called her dumb.

We need smart people, and people that have the ability to lead. She doesn’t have that ability. Can you imagine her with chairman Xi [Jinpin, President of the People’s Republic of China]

He then goes on about her looks.

I saw a picture of her on Time Magazine today. She looks like the most beautiful actress ever to live.

Essentially arguing that she faked her way into her position, coasting on her looks. This is a misogynistic view point.

Here he's drawing contrast, of course they're beautiful in there own way. But considering his history of racism and his racist base, this comes off as a dog whistle. She's beautiful but not white woman beautiful.

She looked very much like our great first lady, Melania,” Trump gushed as Musk met his comment with an awkward chuckle and a reserved, “yeah…”

She didn’t look like Camilla,” Trump said, purposely butchering Harris’ name. “Of course, she’s a beautiful woman and we’ll leave it at that.”

Leave it at that I interpret as, of course she's beautiful for a black woman. He leaves it at that as a dog whistle as he's realizing overt racism isn't helping him atm.

[–] Randomgal@lemmy.ca 2 points 2 months ago

For some reason it makes me feel extra icky that he referred to her as "our great first lady...". A title she doesn't have, no matter what he dreams. instead of just "my wife Melania", or "my beautiful wife Melania". Is he into cucking or something?

[–] Moobythegoldensock@lemm.ee 71 points 2 months ago (2 children)

Trump’s new political strategy is… gushing about his opponent’s looks and comparing her to his wife?

[–] Empricorn@feddit.nl 59 points 2 months ago (1 children)

I guess I can see a similarity: they both don't want to sleep with Trump?

[–] scops@reddthat.com 12 points 2 months ago

People do tend to look pretty similar when they're trying to stay as far away from you as possible.

[–] MummifiedClient5000@feddit.dk 19 points 2 months ago

Fully leaning into the weird persona and trying to creep Harris out.

[–] Gingerlegs@lemmy.world 67 points 2 months ago
[–] Spitzspot@lemmings.world 60 points 2 months ago

Creepy weird

[–] breakfastmtn@lemmy.ca 35 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Even far-right ghouls can't deny it. Harris is a total prosecutie.

[–] ElcaineVolta@kbin.melroy.org 14 points 2 months ago (1 children)

is there any chance you got this phrase from Arrested Development?

[–] breakfastmtn@lemmy.ca 15 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Just a slight 100% chance.

[–] ElcaineVolta@kbin.melroy.org 9 points 2 months ago

"I outsourced it!"

[–] dhork@lemmy.world 34 points 2 months ago (2 children)

The headline is that Trump called Harris "beautiful", but the actual context was "the most beautiful actress". I think he was attempting to imply that she isn't qualified for the job at all, and is simply acting the part.

[–] Lucidlethargy@sh.itjust.works 21 points 2 months ago

This is just garden variety sexism. But it's so out of place in 2024 that people aren't going to understand it.

This guy is a fucking fossil. I bet this worked great back when he was 50, and hanging out with a bunch of other old white guys.

He was 50 back in 1996. The fucking nineties. Vote this geriatric, senile douchebag off his soap box.

Camilla, maybe as in Princess (?) Camilla, the wife of Charles III.?

[–] idiomaddict@lemmy.world 13 points 2 months ago

I’ll give him this one, Kamala Harris doesn’t look like Princess Camilla. Of course, she also doesn’t look like Melania…

[–] homesweethomeMrL@lemmy.world 2 points 2 months ago

No it was more like "Ka-MAH-la"

[–] homesweethomeMrL@lemmy.world 27 points 2 months ago (1 children)
[–] Spacehooks@reddthat.com 2 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Why didn't he have his teeth in? I was so confused on his lisp.

[–] homesweethomeMrL@lemmy.world 2 points 2 months ago

Afaik he has veneers so - possibly chomped too hard on a burnt ketchup steak?

[–] MsPenguinette@lemmy.world 21 points 2 months ago (3 children)

Hours after the Trump-Musk interview, the tech tycoon said that he is also willing to interview Harris ahead of the November election.

“Happy to host Kamala on an 𝕏 Spaces too,” he wrote on his social media platform.

Harris’s campaign team meanwhile responded to the interview with a scathing statement calling Trump and Musk “self-obsessed rich guys who will sell out the middle class and who cannot run a livestream in the year 2024.”

Nah, she should do it. Would love to see Musk crumble by having to talk with someone who would do anything but spin around on his dick

[–] warm@kbin.earth 41 points 2 months ago

It just bolsters him though and doesn't do much for Harris.

[–] ganksy@lemmy.world 33 points 2 months ago

Nope. Fuck his platform. Any movement that's not away from it puts us in a worse position.

[–] Lasherz12@lemmy.world 11 points 2 months ago

I don't think she should lend credence to money buying an interview

[–] Mouselemming@sh.itjust.works 16 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago) (1 children)

Eeeeewwww! Creepy Don shows his ugly face again!

The only way Trump can relate to any woman (or especially a little girl) is as a fuck object.

Just the thought makes you want to go take a shower, with bleach.

[–] EmpathicVagrant@lemmy.world 7 points 2 months ago

He does recommend bleach, thanks for staying thematic.

That’s how tiny hands McGee likes the scrubbin’ done.

[–] jhymesba@lemmy.world 13 points 2 months ago (1 children)

"Beautiful" is far from the first word I'd use to describe our future Madam President. "Smart". "Dedicated". "Hard-Nosed". "Driven". "Focused".

Reduce her to her looks at your peril, shitgibbon.

[–] lennivelkant@discuss.tchncs.de 6 points 2 months ago

I don't think she's particularly good looking, which may just be personal taste, but in any case doesn't matter in the slightest. She's not running for Miss America, she's running for President.

Not that I hold any particular love for beauty contests either, but - like Harris' looks - that's irrelevant here.

[–] eran_morad@lemmy.world 11 points 2 months ago

I just can’t anymore. He’s so fucking weird and shitty and creepy.

[–] RampantParanoia2365@lemmy.world 10 points 2 months ago (1 children)

marking a complete U-turn from the 2020 election where he sided with President Joe Biden and the Democrats.

Bullshit. This cannot possibly be true.

[–] Cephalotrocity@biglemmowski.win 7 points 2 months ago (1 children)
[–] RampantParanoia2365@lemmy.world 4 points 2 months ago (1 children)

But he's been a right wing nut job since before 2020.

[–] skyspydude1@lemmy.world 4 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago) (1 children)

Sure, but he also knew that part of Biden's plans were EV tax credits, and nothing gets Elon more interested in something than a government hand-out.

[–] billiam0202@lemmy.world 2 points 2 months ago

Government handouts, aka billionaire Viagra.

[–] Thorry84@feddit.nl 5 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Why is there not a clip of what he said in the article? The main video is of a completely different part. None of the links in the article seem to be the clip? I'm probably just dumb and not seeing it, or is it actually not there?
