The context is Kamala isn't smart enough to run the country. He then pans to how beautiful she is by making comparisons with his wife (misogyny, she's beautiful but dumb). He then points out how of course they look different (race).

My interpretation is, in his own misogynistic racist way, he's trying to backpadel on the racism by calling her beautiful, but ends up coming off as misogynistic and still quite racist.

You forgot that he called her an actress

Yeah, there was a lot of subtle negging happening.

Remember, Melania got into the US on an "Einstein" visa. Trump really might believe she's intelligent and would therefore be complimenting Harris by making that comparison.

I pulled context from the article. He called her dumb.

We need smart people, and people that have the ability to lead. She doesn’t have that ability. Can you imagine her with chairman Xi [Jinpin, President of the People’s Republic of China]

He then goes on about her looks.

I saw a picture of her on Time Magazine today. She looks like the most beautiful actress ever to live.

Essentially arguing that she faked her way into her position, coasting on her looks. This is a misogynistic view point.

Here he's drawing contrast, of course they're beautiful in there own way. But considering his history of racism and his racist base, this comes off as a dog whistle. She's beautiful but not white woman beautiful.

She looked very much like our great first lady, Melania,” Trump gushed as Musk met his comment with an awkward chuckle and a reserved, “yeah…”

She didn’t look like Camilla,” Trump said, purposely butchering Harris’ name. “Of course, she’s a beautiful woman and we’ll leave it at that.”

Leave it at that I interpret as, of course she's beautiful for a black woman. He leaves it at that as a dog whistle as he's realizing overt racism isn't helping him atm.

For some reason it makes me feel extra icky that he referred to her as "our great first lady...". A title she doesn't have, no matter what he dreams. instead of just "my wife Melania", or "my beautiful wife Melania". Is he into cucking or something?
