So he wants to defund an already under funded health care system, but pay private companies lots of many to provide health care instead? Did I get that right?

No, you misunderstand. Private clinics are much more effective at channeling money into the pockets of specific people (the owners) instead of a larger system.

The Efficiency of the Market will reduce costs, as evidenced by (checks notes) the US spending more per capita on healthcare than any other country on Earth with lower access to healthcare than many developed nations.

The Free Market is clearly the best answer.

I live in the US. I never have a clue what I’m spending, what a procedure or medication will cost, until maybe months later when they send me the bill which won’t be itemized and sometimes doesn’t even list what I’m paying for. I can receive additional bills for up to a year (recent change! They could bill you 10 years later before). I have no way of knowing the total cost, and I don’t know when I’m done paying. It’s designed to make sure I can’t shop around. In effect, the final cost is however much money I have in my pocket today or at any point in the future.

Also, the free market works great when you have no choice plus no information. If I had a heart attack, I guess I’ll pay whatever they bill me. Who knows. I guess it doesn’t matter because they can send me $1 million bill and I can’t pay it anyway. I just throw it away. Hopefully it would kill me so my family isn’t destitute.

Definitely follow the US model!

So that's when it'll trickles down to us, right? When we're all fucking unable to work and on long term disability.

When we’re all fucking unable to work and on long term disability

It's cute that you think there will be LTD available. You'll just be tossed into the street and replaced by the next person.

Yeah sure… whatever, whatever it is you say in the future. Money today! Money now. That’s the most important step.

I’ll gladly pay you tomorrow.

For my hamburger today? But whitespot charged me 24$ for this hamburger... I had a coupon.

Our system is absolutely in crisis and my partner can't wait more than a year to have a functional hip again (they're currently wheelchair bound and not even sixty)... We'll probably get private care abroad because like fuck are we going to fund local doctors running private clinics.

This is a funding issue - can these conservative fucks not see how absolutely shitty the US's healthcare system is? I used to live under that system and you'd just ignore problems until they got really bad because health isn't free.

We can do better, it absolutely will cost more than we're spending now but it's fucking worth it. Health is literally the one thing you can't fucking skimp on if you want a good life.

Rustad's promises, three months before the provincial election, also include compensating health workers who lost their jobs for refusing to get the COVID-19 vaccine.

Damn you gotta give it to the Conservatives for finding new and imaginative ways to piss away money.

[–] Mammothmothman@lemmy.ca 5 points 3 months ago

The only thing they conserve is a myopic worldview.

[–] CileTheSane@lemmy.ca 2 points 3 months ago

So instead of using money to fund the healthcare system, they want to give it to people who shouldn't be in the healthcare system?

We have safety nets for people who lose their jobs, I was recently on EI for 3 months, these idiots don't need special treatment beyond that.

John Rustad is great at wasting money

[–] TheFeatureCreature@lemmy.world 10 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Why would I want to spend hours and hundreds of dollars to leave my province for healthcare? What sort of clown-speak is this?

[–] Beaver@lemmy.ca 7 points 3 months ago

He needs to get in the clown car and drive away from BC politics since he resents the province so much.

[–] Reddfugee42@lemmy.world 8 points 3 months ago

Conservatives love to ruin fully functional solutions so they can pretend only for profit systems work
