Cannabis Cultivation

This will be a home for all things related to the cultivation of cannabis. The preferred focus here will be organic and sustainable growing methods, but any cannabis growers or growers-to-be are welcome!

The moderator and community creator here is in a legal cannabis state. It is therefore assumed that everyone sharing photos and info about their grows is also doing so legally. If you're not, then keep that to yourself. Any mention of actively conducting a cannabis grow illegally will be removed. This is to protect our instance admin, and will be a zero-tolerance policy.

After a couple of waterings with a commercial fertilizer my girls are looking better than ever. The yellowing has subsided and the plants have gotten a nicer green color. Thanks to all who gave advice!

They need to be topped and the bottoms cleaned out. If you are in North America you have plenty of veg time still (aug 15th for Pacific Northwest). One trick you can do is tie a string to the top and bend it all the way down to below the lower branches. This will make the side branches grow taller. I aim to make all the “tops” the same height.

Any branch that is not going to make it out of canopy can be safely removed which will make the plant put more energy into the branches that will turn to flowers.

Keep feeding. I didn’t see your old posts but the plants here look fine and have a lot of rapid dense growth and that’s a good sign.

To OP. This is good advice but don’t feel bad if you don’t follow. Play with your plants and you’ll find your own style of training them. Shit, you might even be the „all natural” guy and thats still fine.

All that matters is you have some healthy looking plants.

Yeah I understand. I come from a commercial cannabis background and old habits are hard to break. Maximum yield with the minimum of larf is the name of the game.

To be honest, im not trying to maximize yield. The only reason i have two plants is that one of them was slow to germinate. If i get 10% of the promised yield im set for a year😆 Lovely healthy plants is the main mission😊

Own grown weed is best weed. Nothing better then a jar full of home grown flowers. I like leaving mine roughly trimmed so I get to finish them just before grinding

Looking great! Now they have a very good base for the next phase. You can remove all those nasty leaves if you want to. Even defoliate a little at the bottom.

I second removing dead foliage and perhaps defoliating a bit to ensure proper airflow through the plant.

Edit also if you haven't topped, you might as well, so the apical dominance breaks. This way you'll get a wider plant not as tall.. This with defoliating will make it so it's not like a spruce but more like a berry bush, so especially because it's outside, it will reduce risk of mold.

Good idea, but maybe a little late for these plants. Mainlining or LST should start early for that bushy grow.

(My balcony Skunk #1 week 16 or something, weather in Germany was bad so she took her time)

I'd say it's not too late until you're well into flower. Just crushing the top growth node a bit will induce the same sort of hormonal changes that topping does.

Moreover, before flower, and usually for the first weeks of it, the plant is still plenty bendy, so you can spread it out so you get a nice wide bush (hehe) with some good airflow through it.

I don't do any special entire projects like mainlining, since I've found that my casual bending the plant as I go along works just fine to achieve a nice more or less even canvas of nugs in my tent.

Well the topping I do do around 4/6 leaf pairs

They look good though, but if you see it useful and the plants are still bendy, i just like "opening up" the top a bit, making the tallest branches go wider and more to the same level as the other ones. Granted that doesn't really matter when you're growing outside, but it would allow more sunlight deeper into the plant perhaps.

Idk just chatting shit, looks good. Wishing I had an outside garden instead of just tents.

I hadnt even considered topping it... I feel dumb now. I've been doing it to more or less all my other herbs😐 I think ill start the flowering early august so maybe its a bit late to start topping now

On side note... I love my garden. Its so fulfilling learning to grow vegetables and herbs🧑‍🌾

Nah it's not late. They have a growth spurt when they enter flower, so if you top now, it will be a more all around growth spurt and less straight up with the top cola.

Doesn't even need to cut off the main node, just crush it a lil bit to break it.

Most of the time I defoliate the smallest lower branches just when entering flower and still keep shaping the plant with gentle bending of the branches. Give it a good once-over once she's ready to fruit and I change the lights.

Those are gonna be massive after they enter flower.

As soon as the color came back i stoppede adding additional fertilizer so hopefully i wont get burns😊 They are lovely and in the evening they smell devine

Good call but make sure you feed them regularly and supplement potassium and stuff for flowering.
