Bullshit, they weren't dethroned, still sitting happily on it in fact. They fell below 50% of the vote for the first time in the national election since the dawn of democracy here in South Africa. So instead they embraced a Government of National Unity, or GNU where multiple parties came together, 10 I think, and formed a coalition.
What the ANC did is commendable, considering many liberation movements will cling to power at all costs once it loses majority, cough Zimbabwe, cough cough. The ANC rather chose stability, with the DA, the second biggest party in South Africa, and previous opposition party for like 65 years, and the IFP, a Zulu based party from KZN.
The GNU has embraced the centre of politics and rejected the radical left (if you really can call them left) like the MK and EFF, which calls for the dissolution of our constitution and expropriation of all mines and land, ending any private property.
I really hope this lasts, South African politics have given below after blow to us ordinary citizens. Ramaphosa's ascension to the head of the ANC back in 2018 gave us all a lot of hope, yet fell flat due to the radicals and corrupt in the ANC blocking any progress, and Ramaphosa choosing party over state. So there now is a window for a boring accountable government to try and shift the direction the country was moving in.
