No no no no, you don't get it.

BIDEN is not a king. Because the conservative owned SCOTUS will rule that whatever crimes he commits in office are not done as official business.

TRUMP is the future first monarch. Only his crimes will be deemed official business.

This ruling is just setting him up for a SCOTUS pardon, which they just granted themselves the power to do, so he can assume his throne.

SCOTUS gave themselves the power to absolve the POTUS of crimes. And POTUS already has the power to absolve anyone else of federal crimes.

Yep. Totally what the founders wanted.

George Washington would put trump in the fucking ground faster than you could say king of America

[–] samus12345@lemmy.world 48 points 4 months ago (1 children)

Washington's ghost: "Let's see how America is getting along."

"..."

"Welp, I tried to warn them political parties were a bad idea."

I had the Mental Image of George calmly setting aside his false teeth before suplexing Trump so hard that you could measure it on the Richter scale.

what if he keeps executing SCOTUSes until they agree to absolve him?

[–] Wrench@lemmy.world 38 points 4 months ago (1 children)

Yep, I drew out a plausible plan in another thread on how that could work.

Arrest them on corruption, Espionage, domestic terrorism, etc charges. Either move them to an offshore blacksite, or "accidentally" kill them during the arrest.

That would certainly fall under "official acts", and if it's overstepping authority, well, who cares because even if they're deemed crimes, they were done in the context of official duties to keep this country safe.

And then when the corrupt SCOTUS members are purged, fill the seats with those that will uphold that Bidens orders were official acts. And Biden can pardon those executing his orders.

This is exactly what the SCOTUS just enabled. It's absolutely abhorrent. And Biden would never do it because it's obviously anti democratic and would establish a dictatorship.

But Trump WILL do it. And the current SCOTUS will allow it.

If Biden were a just president, he would destroy the justices until they imprisoned him and fixed the law

[–] ironhydroxide@sh.itjust.works 16 points 4 months ago* (last edited 4 months ago)

Only his crimes

What crimes? All I see is official business. Especially that guy he had killed because he was on 5th Ave. -- supreme court

[–] zaph@sh.itjust.works 12 points 4 months ago

That's checks and balance baby

[–] GBU_28@lemm.ee 11 points 4 months ago

Well if he used his power to destroy the republicans on the supreme court, then the Democrat justices threw him in jail, the republic would be saved.

It's literally the minimum viable cost to reset democracy and order

[–] Seraph@fedia.io 70 points 4 months ago (4 children)

Didn't the Supreme Court just invite him to do this?

I mean he does now have the powers of an absolute monarch.

As far as I know Saudi Arabia is the only other country with an absolute monarch, so it makes some sense we are allies now.

[–] samus12345@lemmy.world 52 points 4 months ago (1 children)

Not exactly. He's only allowed to do illegal things if the SCOTUS is okay with it. He's a Democrat, so they wouldn't be.

[–] Clinicallydepressedpoochie@lemmy.world 32 points 4 months ago* (last edited 4 months ago) (6 children)

Not until he wipes the supreme court and then installs his puppet court. Once that happens the senate won't even impeech, if they know what's good for them.

It's all jokes, but this is the GOPs plan more or less.

They might not violently overthrow the court but only because they have silently already done it.

Next project 2025 will dismantle our elections. When 2028 rolls around, well what do you know, 99% of Americans WANT Don Jr to be kin-- president.

It's over. The only thing left is for the DNC and the voting public to hand him the crown. And they do so willingly, because Biden, ~checks notes~, is old?

[–] samus12345@lemmy.world 17 points 4 months ago (1 children)

It's not over yet, but it is very dangerously close.

[–] Clinicallydepressedpoochie@lemmy.world 14 points 4 months ago* (last edited 4 months ago) (1 children)

When I hear the pundants, even the ones I thought I liked, try to pacify what is happening, I know we are done. Even if they do it for their own sanity, there should be no pacification for injustice at this level.

"Well, that's just Trump and he has all the GOP by his side so what can you do?" You should do what ever it takes, what ever power you hold, what ever platform you have it should be used to oppose these tyrants. In that light, it's already over. No one will actually stand up from here until December and it will all be too late.

[–] samus12345@lemmy.world 6 points 4 months ago

When I hear the pundits, even the ones I thought I liked, try to pacify what is happening, I know we are done.

You may very well be right, and that's extremely frustrating for me, too. Manufactured consent being laid bare.

[–] Veneroso@lemmy.world 8 points 4 months ago

Biden will respect the power of the office. Peacefully transition to the Trump Administration. And peacefully walk to the gallows they have erected for him.

I never thought that I would see it but even Glenn Kirschner is advocating for something extra-legal....

could a king dissolve a supreme court?

[–] negativenull@lemmy.world 62 points 4 months ago (1 children)

as long as it's "official"

[–] HeyThisIsntTheYMCA@lemmy.world 9 points 4 months ago

Fine in a vat of official acid

[–] Macallan@lemmy.world 30 points 4 months ago (1 children)

Probably... in a vat of acid...

[–] Leate_Wonceslace@lemmy.dbzer0.com 8 points 4 months ago (1 children)

As a joke, that statement is legal.

I am incapable of legally agreeing with this statement.

[–] Cryophilia@lemmy.world 11 points 4 months ago (1 children)

I can legally express my opinion that based on the Supreme Court's ruling it would be legal for Biden to - as an official presidential act - dissolve SCOTUS in a vat of acid.

I say he just tells the tRump appointed judges to either resign, or die. Then I'd send a seal team to pick up mr. rapist with 34 felonies and have a nice heart to heart, in an undisclosed location.

[–] gmtom@lemmy.world 41 points 4 months ago (3 children)

If the Dems werent so perpetually useless, they would immediately jump on this to get shit done, then when republicans cry and whine, push them to actually pass legislation that explicitly denies this. So they are stuck between letting Biden do whatever he wants to and stopping him, but also dooming Trump and/or whatever republican candidate down the line they want to be able to exploit these powers.

But they wont. Joe and his handlers will keep doing nothing and expecting everything to just magically work itself out. And then in January we will have a fully unrestricted God-king Trump.

(Also it would be so fucking funny if Trump just died of natural causes before the election/ inauguration, the MAGATS would actually implode from conspiracy theories)

[–] Linkerbaan@lemmy.world 12 points 4 months ago* (last edited 4 months ago) (1 children)

The Democrats are not incapable. They are malicious and complicit.

It's time to stop pretending Democrats are just stupid well intentioned people

Oh, you think Joe hasn't done anything?

insert 2-pt font graphic of the 80,000 administrative court decisions passed under Biden that the SCOTUS just shredded via Chevron Deference case

(Also it would be so fucking funny if Trump just died of natural causes before the election/ inauguration, the MAGATS would actually implode from conspiracy theories)

If the polls bare out, Biden is going to lose states where Senate and House Dems win with wide margins. That, alone, is going to send the QAnon folks into a frothing lather and trigger a cascade of Trump Admin Constitutional Crises, as people argue that the election was rigged to favor the Deep State.

Republicans know they've got the police and significant chunks of the military on their side. So they're just going to do whatever the fuck they want at the state and local levels. Trump can do whatever he damned pleases at the Federal level, knowing the Dem Congress will just whine and pound sand. And the MAGAts are going to scream about how anything the GOP can't get done fast enough is being sabotaged by secret evil leftist sabatores, invoking wave after wave of new University pogroms and bureaucratic purges and police raids of liberal social clubs.

[–] todd_bonzalez@lemm.ee 5 points 4 months ago (1 children)

Jump on what? The president wasn't granted immunity.

The SCOTUS passed the buck to lower courts, and those courts could draw the line at whether or not Biden's actions qualify as official or not.

Or it could end up back at the SCOTUS, where we would have to trust (lol) that they reach the same opinion they did for Biden as they did for Trump.

[–] gmtom@lemmy.world 9 points 4 months ago (2 children)

Yes they did, absolute immunity for powers given in the constitution and presumptive immunity for all official acts.

They sent Trumps issue back to the lower courts to make a ruiling based on their clarifications.

[–] RootAccess@lemmynsfw.com 17 points 4 months ago

King Biden can now use his powers to silence Trump, one way or another.

[–] mannycalavera@feddit.uk 8 points 4 months ago (1 children)

As an Irish American, I'm not sure King Biden would welcome the title..

[–] Rodrios@lemmy.world 7 points 4 months ago (1 children)

It would be King Joe, kings use given names, not family names.

What did I miss? Why are there posts about Biden being a king?

[–] dodgy_bagel@lemmy.blahaj.zone 40 points 4 months ago* (last edited 4 months ago) (2 children)

Supreme court ruled that presidents are immune from obeying the law.

Basically, they went against a millennium of legal precedent and overturned the magna carta.

[–] multifariace@lemmy.world 7 points 4 months ago (2 children)

I saw that ruling. But there are multiple posts mentioning Biden as king as if there was something broadcasted or viral about it. Is there more?

I had to look into how magna carta is relevant and only see a vague connection about going back to pre-American laws.

[–] Yearly1845@reddthat.com 27 points 4 months ago (1 children)

In her dissent, Justice Sotomayor likened the ruling to making the president a King above the law. That's where this is coming from.

Our legal system is a continuation of the English common law system of the American colonies.

The magna carta falls within English legal history and is widely viewed as the first step in regulating the behavior of the king.

This supreme court ruling seems to allow the President to break the law.

It's my own comparison, but I think it's quite good.

I could also say that they've made the presidency into a dictatorship (in the Roman usage of the word). That's actually unfair to dictators since their unlimited power was narrow in scope, and they could be prosecuted when they left office. Ceasar was the last Roman dictator.
