Minnesotans are now able to legally possess and grow their own marijuana for recreational purposes, after the Minnesota Legislature approved a 300-page bill earlier this year, and Gov. Tim Walz signed it into law shortly thereafter. It became official Tuesday.

Here I am in Iowa, just surrounded by states that have legalized… like being in a dry county, whatever am I to do? 😏

[–] Gray@lemmy.ca 32 points 1 year ago (2 children)

You think it's weird in Iowa? Try Wisconsin! Literally every state it touches now has legal weed except for the tiny bit of Iowa we touch in the corner. Illinois, Minnesota, Michigan. All now have legal weed. But I still see the news reports in Wisconsin about "criminals" being caught with weed. It's insane.

I still got a petty weed charge from 11yrs ago when i was a teen in wisconsin, that place will never change

[–] Ado@lemmy.world 6 points 1 year ago

I thought Missouri would never but I was surprised. Hopefully Wisconsin too!!

Yeah, its frustrating here sometimes. At least I'm a short drive from one of those bordering states...

[–] Buffaloaf@lemmy.world 20 points 1 year ago (1 children)

In Wyoming and I feel the same. Other states are making money while mine is spending money arresting people.

[–] Pandantic@lemmy.world 13 points 1 year ago

Yes! Like I guess I could just give all this money to Illinois and improve their economy…

[–] postmateDumbass@lemmy.world 17 points 1 year ago

Hope for wind?

[–] SinningStromgald@lemmy.world 16 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Well DEFINITELY don't you dare drive to one of those said states to aquire any marijuana. That would be exceedingly naughty.

[–] Pandantic@lemmy.world 9 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Right? Something a law abiding citizen of a pot-free state would never do!

[–] eek2121@lemmy.world 13 points 1 year ago (5 children)

The problem is that if you get caught you can be charged a federal crime instead of with a state crime.

Federal crimes include mandatory minimum sentences/jail time in addition to fines.

Believe me, I have thought about making the trip elsewhere since my state will be the last to ever legalize. The closest legal place is 2.5 hours from my house.

Me getting caught would screw up multiple lives including my own, however. Instead, I have to settle for the poor man’s stuff (delta8, delta9, etc) and only get the real stuff when I travel. The poor man’s stuff helps a medical condition I have, but is nothing like the real thing.

I cant even get out of my state in 2.5 hours. Not sure how long I'd have to drive to get some legal weed.

You can buy in Illinois even with out of state ID apparently.

[–] Pandantic@lemmy.world 5 points 1 year ago

Yes, about half as much as in-state license holders can.

[–] CmdrShepard@lemmy.one 6 points 1 year ago (2 children)

I heard huffing road salt can give you a pretty good high and there should be no shortage of it around Iowa. Also, boofing freshly shucked corn is supposed to induce quite the euphoric experience. You're not completely out of options in rural Iowa.

[–] archomrade@midwest.social 4 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Also, boofing freshly shucked corn is supposed to induce quite the euphoric experience.

Well now i'm thinking I didn't give Iowa enough of a chance.

[–] CmdrShepard@lemmy.one 3 points 1 year ago

This ancient Iowan practice is actually the origin of the game "corn hole." Back in the day people used to compete to see who could get the most cobs down their friend's hole. Whoever got the most won that year's prized dairy cow.

[–] Texas_Hangover@lemmy.world 3 points 1 year ago

You're supposed to shuck it??

[–] dill@lemmy.one 5 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Don't worry Kim Reynolds will keep Iowa safe from the dangers of addiction and scary gateway drugs.

[–] Pandantic@lemmy.world 11 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Funny considering the woman is an alcoholic drunk driver.

Even the medical ones for cataracts and arthritis are out. In Iowa, you can only have pot if you currently have cancer and/or are dying. That’s not completely true, but it is only for the most extreme medical conditions.

What's legal

Adults 21 and older can possess and travel in the state with 2 ounces of cannabis flower, 8 grams of concentrate and 800 milligrams worth of THC-containing edible products such as gummies and seltzers. They can have up to 2 pounds of cannabis flower at home.

Low-potency edibles made with THC from industrial hemp were legalized last year. They've been subject to a 10% marijuana tax since July 1. That tax will apply to other marijuana products as they become licensed for sales, but not on sovereign tribal lands.

First the cops all leave the Twin Cities and now this! Things looking up for Minnesota

[–] Oderus@lemmy.world 3 points 1 year ago

Anyone else reading this in the voice of Will Sasso doing Jessue Ventura?

"I've got 1000 gallons of fresh water and a silo filled with Tacos'

[–] ckskate@lemmy.world 3 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Just in time for my trip to Minnesota!

[–] bizzle@lemmy.world 6 points 1 year ago

Just got back from Minnesota but I'm in Illinois so I just smuggled my own medical stuff across state lines, through Iowa and Wisconsin. Next time I'll be able to buy some there and not have to worry about federal prison over a plant 😎
