Ah it's a setting for Text To Speech functionality. Guess they replaced there being just a male and a female voice with there being a list of different voices each identified by a name.

That's really interesting. Voices didnt need to be segmented by male or female anyways.

Especially since in a lot of animated shows, it's hard to tell anyways. Hell, one of the most popular anime MC is voiced by a woman.

Tons of young male characters are voiced by women. I'm curious which anime you're referring to though.

I'm guessing they are refering to Dragon Ball (Goku). Whose original voice actress (in Japanese) is Masako Nozawa.

You're probably right, but my first thought was Luffy from One Piece, voiced by Mayumi Tanaka in Japanese and Colleen Clinkenbeard in English, both women.

(Also, I can't get over what a good name Clinkenbeard is for a VA who voices a pirate)

In non-Japanese cartoons as well. Jimmy Neutron is voiced by Debi Derryberry.
